411's MMA SOUP 06.07.10: Rickson by Armbar
Posted by Todd Bergman on 06.07.2010
Dana White, Chael Sonnen, Lee Murray are just some of the ingredients this week. Kim Couture battles LaTasha Marzolla in Tap That, Sherdog is the Douche of the Week and a logical Top 5 fighters the UFC needs to sign in this edition of 411’s MMA SOUP.
In a world of ‘roided-out douche bags who wear tin foil t-shirts and have awful tattoos, I, Todd Bergman, have stepped forward to point out the comedy and un-funny moments of the week. The name of the column is horribly unoriginal and the attempts at humor will be ill-advised and often not funny. So don't take too much serious here and just sit back and enjoy the week that was MMA here on 411mania.com.
Monday
-The fallout from this past weekends UFC continues with Dana White hating on Diego Sanchez.
"I don't think Diego belongs at 170. I think it's easier to be at 170. He looked soft. He looked real lethargic and slow and heavy. [One] fifty-five, Diego. Fifty-five. He's a tough guy. I'm not his manager, but I think he should stay at 155. Listen, a loss to B.J. Penn doesn't mean you go back up to 170. It means you stay at 155 and you do what Kenny Florian did. You stay in there and keep grinding it out and beating the top guys, and you get back in line and work your way up to the top again. Diego does not look good at 170."
Time will only tell if Sanchez does or doesn't belong in the Welterweight division. I really think that Diego needs another fight at 170 given this was his return fight. I wouldn't know much about cutting weight given that I'm fat and not an MMA "fan" but it seems like just another time in which Dana White freaked out because he went bald way too young in his life.
-Anderson Silva broke his silence, sort of and began talking about "The Great White Hope" Chael Sonnen. Take it for what it's worth but I'm still in the corner of Silva and his striking ability. Think of the positives people, Sonnen will still have a blooming political career after Silva assassinates him in the upcoming tilt.

Lambert did what he always does and that's bring the goods. The fans this week loved his gifs, which means that they must really love my article.
MMA SOUP is a hell of a lot more entertaining then the boring NBA Finals. Then again, what do I know, I'm not 6'5 and flopping all over the floor because some guy moved into my way.
Tuesday
-The month of June in the world of MMA began with former UFC fighter Lee Murray being convicted of being the mastermind in the UK's biggest bank robbery. Murray got 10 years for his role in the crime. Murray is most famous for supposedly knocking out Tito Ortiz in a dark alley. I wouldn't be surprised if Ortiz comes out and issues a challenge to Murray given that "Lightning" is going to be locked up for the next 10 years.
Oh, the irony
-Josh Koscheck and Dana White continued their love affair with each other. This time with Koscheck firing another shot.
"Dana White doesn't like me, apparently. That's what he says. I'm not a team player. I don't understand how he can say that. To go on record and say that, I think that's a bunch of (expletive). I'm the type of fighter that steps up and fights anybody, anytime, anyplace. I've taken short-notice fights for him. I always do whatever I'm asked. I'm going to prove I'm a team player by winning the show and the welterweight title. [Dennis Rodman] was one of the best rebounders in the NBA, but he didn't really get noticed until he started acting like a crazy man. At the end of the day, I've got to do things for myself and my business to make money so I don't have to work. It's not like we're getting paid $50 million or $60 million a fight like (Floyd) Mayweather."
The greatest thing to ever happen would be if Kos beats GSP. I'm really trying to like Dana White now-a-days but he just keeps calling out his fighters, including the ones that will be making him some big money at some point in the near future.
-Rampage Jackson also made it into the quote board as instead of talking about his defeat to Rashad, he called out the acting community.
"Acting is kind of gay. It makes you soft. You got all these people combing your hair and putting a coat over your shoulders when you're cold. I don't want a coat over my shoulders! I'm a tough-ass [individual]! (In Hollywood) there's a thing called 'pecking order.' I'm not used to that. People can be really inconsiderate of people's feelings. I wasted three weekends in a row waiting in my trailer when they didn't use me at all. To be honest, my experience in this movie industry hasn't always been good. If you know one thing about me, I say time is the most valuable thing in this universe. I hate wasting time. And these [individuals] wasted a lot of my...time! Overall, I was glad I experienced the stuff. But sometimes I have mixed feelings. Sometimes I think, 'Damn, I should have taken that (UFC 107) fight.'"
Once Rampage starts seeing those massive checks from the movie including once the movie hits DVD shelves, he's going to shut his mouth. The logic of Rampage is a little misguided given that for a living he fights topless and lays on other sweaty dudes. I'm positive that the thought of acting being gay is just another common stereotype from the meathead community.
-Chael Sonnen stated on Twitter that he plans on crucifying Ed Soares post fight at UFC 117. Here's the exact quote from Sonnen.
Ed, pray to whatever Demon effigy you prance and dance in front of with your piglet tribe of savages that I decide not to CRUCIFY you.
That's some pretty straight forward hate talk from Sonnen. It's all fun and games until Sonnen comes down to the cage with this guy.
OH YES!!

411 Light Heavyweight Rankings went live and for the most part, it was an easy call. I've still been holding out on rankings since the Heavyweight division debacle. I think that everyone who ranks fighters here at 411 does a tremendous job and probably deserve more credit then what they are given. There I was nice for once.
"Cowboy" Bill Wannop and his "Legacy" column, took a special look at the career of Lil Nog. I get that Nog was gifted a decision at the previous UFC event but it's hardly the end of the dudes career.
Wednesday
-The former Randy Couture was arrested for apparently being the crap out of her personal assistant. I find this hard to believe that Kim actually won a fight. Maybe Kim thought that she was back in TNA fighting Tara on that one night only deal. On the other hand, maybe Kim consistently sees Gina Carano's face when she becomes angry. I mean after all, it's pretty obvious that Gina is the one who broke up Randy & Kim.
Maybe if Kim did these things Randy wouldn't have divorced her
-Jens Pulver was cut from the WEC and subsequently his announcing gig as well. Pulver can now go join the Strikeforce team and their unbelievably biased announcing.
-Chael Sonnen continued his hatred of everyone not American. This time he called out Lyoto Machida and basically everyone in the 205lbs division for losing to him. Sonnen has become great and my pick in the next Presidential election. The irony in this is that Sonnen was nonexistent within the UFC's 205lbs division at one point.
-DREAM continued to be well controversial at best with their decision to use WWII images to promote their latest show. Interesting enough is that the show was held around the American holiday of Memorial Day, which honors our service men and women. I'm all for freedom of speech and such but that Nick Diaz beat down of Mach Sakurai was just another display of American kicking some Japanese ass when we need to. I will now continue singing Hulk Hogan's entrance music.

Fact or Fiction featured the epic showdown of Jeff Harris against MMA Video Reviewer Jaime Meikle. It didn't take a video review to notice that both guys couldn't get past loving one another. To be honest, the questions were pretty easy to agree with. Next week, I'm hoping for a "Dana White is correct in his calling out of fighters" question.
King Solomon was just being King Solomon. I wonder if ESPN is going to devote hours upon hours of TV coverage wondering where this "King" might sign.
Thursday
-James Toney made some Youtube video about MMA fighters being scared or something. It's really hard to understand the guy, so I'm hoping that when he's on the UFC's intro video, they at least subtitle him. Hell, Don Vito was easier to understand.
-"Pillow Hands" Bisping wanted to make it clear that he shouldn't be called pillow hands because he's not a girl. He also stated that he wants to fight Anderson Silva and once again, I think that Bisping must have suffered brain damage from that Hendo KO.
-As heavily rumored and discussed in this article, Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva & Matt Hughes vs. Ricardo Almeida have been announced for UFC 117. I really don't understand what Matt Hughes is doing in the UFC if he isn't going to fight the top guys. Hughes has stated in the past that he has nothing to gain from fighting guys like: Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck, or even Mike Swick. What's to gain from fighting and ultimately beating Almeida? Seems like Hughes is trying to protect his wins in the UFC legacy rather then actually protect his fighting legacy.

"The Professor" Samer Kadi gave everyone an insight of Rashad Evans game plan for his most recent fight with Rampage Jackson. Apparently running and laying & praying is the way to go. Team Jackson should be renamed Team Lay & Pray.
Lord Csonka and fellow 411 writers came up with the Top 5 Pro Wrestlers that should become MMA fighters. After reading this the meatheads of MMA fandom nearly exploded with foil shirted rage.
Friday
-Everyone's favorite pot heads/MMA announcer Joe Rogan recently stated that he would like to see Alistair Overeem & Nick Diaz in the UFC. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand why both of these guys need to be in the UFC. I'm pretty sure that Rogan really wants Diaz back in the UFC because of his pot collection instead of his fighting ability.
-Bas Rutten was named one of the top Dutch Athletes of all time. I browsed the list and saw that Rik Smits was on the list, so there's no way that Bas will win this award. Not only was Rik a tremendous basketball player but anyone who walks around Carmel, Indiana knows that Smits is also a genetic jackhammer. I mean after all the dude has like 15 kids.
-Rumors that Fedor would soon retire have come to a crashing holt. If you missed it, word slowly made the rounds as Fedor announced that he would run for Senate on the United Russia Council. I really don't know anything about the United Russia Council or anything for that matter, I do know that Fedor can basically do anything that he wants. Here's to hoping that Fedor brings some charisma and marketability to the bland, potato flavored Russia Government. It should also be noted that Fedor's upcoming opponent Fabricio Werdum has apparently contacted Alistair Overeem about helping him train. Overeem as seen in the video below, has only one thing to note about Werdum. He's chubby and Overeem doesn't mess with chubby people.

411‘s "Living Legend" Dustin James spawned another Top 10 list. This time the list was Top 10 fights that need to happen in 2010. I did the same list awhile back but James has better pictures.
The Weekend
-"Kimbo Killer" Seth Petruzelli recently signed a new contract with the UFC. I'm all for someone as talented as Seth getting another chance in the UFC just as long as he doesn't subject us to his awfully confusing sense of humor.
-Frank Mir has been toying with the idea of moving to the 205lbs weight class. I don't know how realistic or logical this move is but Mir can always fight that one guy with one arm because from my point of view, Mir is going to have to cut an arm off.
-In some pretty nasty ass news, some guy fighting for Pancrase lost an ear. I'm giving everyone fair warning that the picture is nasty.
Douche of the week
I'm going to start with saying that I know that I'm pretty much a joke when it comes to the MMA Journalist Community and I'm okay with that. However, I'm annoyed with the joke that Sherdog has become. The knobs recently posted some ridiculous article claiming that Dana White was influencing Top 10 rankings and such. My first problem with all of that is basically that Dana White is courting Jake Shields, so why would he have a problem with it? Secondly, Sherdog is always the first to cry foul and play the victim whenever Dana says something about them or takes away their credentials. I along with tons of you read Sherdog and enjoy some of the columnist there. However, the days of playing the small emo victim are way past for Sherdog. If Sherdog really wants to take a stand against the iron fisted UFC, then stop covering them. If you really believe that your readers care about your news and columns then they will still come around and frequent your forums regardless if you are covering the UFC or not. It's time to crap or get off the pot Sherdog. Until then, it's Rickson by Armbar until the day I die.
Tap That
Edith Labelle put the hurting on Lauren Jones last week. This week, we have the previously mentioned Kim Couture taking on LaTasha Marzolla in one of the final match ups before announcing the brackets in the Tap That Tournament of Champions. As always, whoever you want to win the showdown should be included in your comment below.
One last thing before I go and I hope that this becomes something that I can do on a regular basis but I wanted to give you a legit list of 5 guys that I would like to see in the UFC. By the way, the people listed aren't in any order, so don't flame on that.
1.) Glover Teixeira
2.) Antonio McKee
3.) Hector Lombard
4.) Ricardo Arona
5.) Roger Gracie
Thanks for checking out the article everyone. In an attempt to gain more readers, I'm allowing all of you to ask me random questions or legit questions about MMA that you may have. So if you have one, post it below and I will answer next week in "Talking T-Bags." I'm still waiting for the challenge on Xbox Live, so incase you forgot the handle is tberg420. Remember to support your local MMA and keep your tapping hand strong.
LOL @ "Pillow Hands" Bisping. Hope you were joking about the UFC signing Seth. The Sherdog article was written to dispute Dana's claims that Sherdog gets perks from fighters for higher rankings. It's a he said she kinda thing since Dana has reportedly paid media members to attend some of the UFC events. When Dana pulled all MMA website credentials years ago Sherdog and other websites like MMAweekly tried to do without the UFC for a week or so. Imagine the wrestling section of this website not reporting WWE.I remember it sucked & they realized that they were only hurting themselves and their fans and went back to reporting the UFC news. The best MMA website is hardly douchey tho. That's the absolute best picture I've ever seen of "sugar free". I have no idea who LaTosha is but she's got huge boobs and I pick her out of spite.

LaTosha Marzolla.
And Fedor still isn't #1 heavyweight in the world :p .

once again, i'd bang both. but that first chick is BAD! so i guess that's a vote for Kim?

Glover Teixeira 4 sure

Can we have a first-time ever tie? It's too hard to decide. This should have been the championship showdown, not a qualifier. Don't do this to us!!
Posted By: GeeSpotter (Guest) on June 07, 2010 at 08:15 AM
LaTasha
Posted By: Kuch7 (Registered) on June 07, 2010 at 08:15 AM
James Toney would make an awesome running mate for Chael Sonnen - Sonnen's so charismatic that he covers for the fact that Toney has no idea who or where he is most of the time, and Toney brings in the black vote. 2008 marked the paradigm shift - two white people running for the highest offices in the country just aren't going to get it done anymore. Sonnen/Toney 2012!
No idea who LaTasha Marzolla is, but she gets the nod over the soul-sucking ex-wife of Captain America. Boobs.

Chael Sonnen + Paul Bearer = all kinds of awesome
Posted By: Nick (Guest) on June 07, 2010 at 10:09 AM
How do you influence top 10 rankings when they don't exist in the promotion? They are made up by clowns with no life like me. Top rankings are based on what fight will draw the most money and who is available to fight at the time. Sherdog sucks...views must be down on their site so mention a conflict with UFC and get people to jump on over to it.
Posted By: Guest#1689 (Guest) on June 07, 2010 at 02:39 PM
LaTasha
Alemdia is a good fighter, he has excellent BJJ. He is better fighter than Swick IMO, it would be a good win for Hughes.
Also Mckee is the most boring fighter in the world, even more so than Matt Lindland.

Add a vote for the greasy pornstar chick. HAWT.
