411 MMA Rankings 02.25.14: Women's Pound for Pound
Posted by Jonathan Solomon on 02.25.2014

Thanks for clicking, as you've come to expect each Tuesday, today we unveil the latest 411 MMA Rankings. Furthermore, today we checkout a group of fighters we haven't ranked since last summer. With all the snow along the east coast in the U.S., that certainly seems like a time when Tito Ortiz had a winning streak.
The women's divisions make for some of the more entertaining fights and 2014 has the potential to be bigger than any other. As you will see below, the majority of these women are under the UFC or Zuffa banner, meaning we're more apt to see them fight one another.
We just saw Ronda Rousey, unanimously the top fighter, defend her crown yet again this past weekend. The quick victory over Sara McMann made it abundantly clear, it's going to take a fierce striker to stop the former Olympic judoka.
Speaking of such a person, Cris Cyborg appears to be on the long road to the octagon by the end of the year. As long as she stays clean and off any detectable PEDs, remains healthy and does need t lose, all she must then do is actually cut down to 135-pounds. We shall see...
Meanwhile, the strawweights are waiting patiently for their turn in the spotlight. The new UFC division launches via TUF on FS1 in May with a tournament we won't witness until the end of summer. The mix of champions,  accomplished vets, rising prospects and beginners should make for a surprising tourney. Plus, as we learned yesterday, lightweight champion Anthony Pettis and his next challenger, Gilbert Melendez will coach the two teams
Now, check out the rankings to get reacquainted with the talent from 145-pounds down to 105.

411's MMA Ranking Rules

- Which fighters are eligible for these rankings? They must meet the following qualifications: fight at least once in the past 365 days or if they have not, be officially scheduled for an upcoming fight.

- A fighter serving a disciplinary suspension will not be ranked. They can return when they have served their suspension or in the event it is rescinded. This includes fighters who may disregard their suspension locally to fight overseas.

- If a fighter appears on just one single ballot, and in the top ten, five points will be deducted to balance between other fighters who may be ranked lower, but appear on a greater amount of ballots.

- Want to complain about a fighter's ranking in the comments section? Please include an objective reason why you despise the list, and try your best to bring the rest of us to your way of thinking.

411's MMA Rankings

Pound For Pound

1) "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey (9-0)

Height: 5'6

Weight (lbs.): 135

Birthday: February 1, 1987

Currently Fighting With: UFC

Last 5 fights:

- vs. Sara McMann - Win via TKO (knee to the body) - UFC 170: Rousey vs. McMann - February 22, 2013

- vs. Miesha Tate - Win via submission (armbar) - UFC 168: Weidman vs. Silva 2 - December 28, 2013

- vs. Liz Carmouche - Win via submission (armbar) - UFC 157: Rousey vs. Carmouche - February 23, 2013

- vs. Sarah Kaufman - Win via submission (armbar) - Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman - August 18, 2012

- vs. Miesha Tate - Win via submission (armbar) - Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey - March 3, 2012

Next scheduled appearance:

- Unknown

Comment: In earning her ninth consecutive pro victory, Rousey did so for the first time without the use of her patented armbar. In fact, she won without ever needing to go to the ground. It took just 66-seconds for her to score the win over wrestler Sara McMann. While McMann was able to score a few solid punches in that span, her body took a big knee that dropped her and resulted in ref Herb Dean calling the fight.

2) Cris "Cyborg" Justino (12-1, 1 NC)

Height: 5'8

Weight (lbs.): 145

Birthday: July 9, 1985

Currently Fighting With: Invicta FC

Last 5 fights:

- vs. Marloes Coenen - Win via TKO (strikes) - Invicta 6: Cyborg vs. Coenen 2 - July 13, 2013

- vs. Fiona Muxlow - Win via TKO (knees) - Invicta FC 5: Penne vs. Waterson - April 5, 2013

- vs. Hiroko Yamanaka - No Contest (positive drug test following win via TKO) - Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal - December 17, 2011

- vs. Jan Finney - Win via KO (knee) - Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Werdum - June 26, 2010

- vs. Marloes Coenen - Win via TKO (punches) - Strikeforce: Miami - January 30, 2010

Next scheduled appearance:

- Unknown

Comment: Cyborg released a statement to "Inside MMA" on AXS TV last week saying she plans to challenge Ronda Rousey for the UFC bantamweight title at the end of 2014. In the mean time, she has her eyes set on dropping down to bantamweight over the summer. Easier said than done? Perhaps.

3) Jessica Aguilar (17-4)

Height: 5'4

Weight (lbs.): 115

Birthday: May 8, 1982

Currently Fighting With: World Series of Fighting

Last 5 fights:

- vs. Alida Gray - Win via submission (arm-triangle choke) - WSOF 8 - January 18, 2014

- vs. Megumi Fujii - Win via decision (split) - Vale Tudo Japan 3rd - October 5, 2013

- vs. Patricia Vidonic - Win via decision (split) - Bellator 94 - March 28, 2013

- vs. Megumi Fujii - Win via decision (unanimous) - Bellator 69 - May 18, 2012

- vs. Patricia Vidonic - Win via decision (unanimous) - Fight Time Promotions 8 - February 7, 2012

Next scheduled appearance:

- Unknown

Comment: The new WSOF strawweight champion is the best women's fighter not under the UFC umbrella (though some believe WSOF is essentially a UFC feeder system). She was let go from her Bellator deal last year and ended up defeating the legendary Megumi Fujii for the second time to send the Japanese fighter off into retirement. Now, we'll have to wait and see who will be Aguilar's first challenger in the WSOF cage.

4) "Alpha" Cat Zingano (8-0)

Height: 5'6

Weight (lbs.): 135

Birthday: July 1, 1982

Currently Fighting With: UFC

Last 5 fights:

- vs. Miesha Tate - Win via TKO (strikes) - UFC TUF 17 Finale - April 13, 2013

- vs. Raquel Pennington - Win via submission (rear naked choke) - Invicta FC 3: Penne vs. Sugiyama - October 6, 2012

- vs. Takayo Hashi - Win via KO (slam and punches) - Fight to Win: Outlaws - May 14, 2011

- vs. Carina Damm - Win via TKO (strikes) - Crowbar MMA: Winter Brawl - December 10, 2010

- vs. Ivana Coleman - Win via TKO (strikes) - Ring of Fire 38: Ascension - June 5, 2010

Next scheduled appearance:

- Unknown

Comment: Aside from her physical health, recovering from last year's torn ACL, she has been dealing with the suicide of her estranged husband. As for when she may return to the octagon, this summer seems like the most realistic option.

5) Marloes Coenen (21-6)

Height: 5'9

Weight (lbs.): 145

Birthday: March 31, 1981

Currently Fighting With: Invicta FC

Last 5 fights:

- vs. Cris Cyborg - Loss via TKO (strikes) - Invicta 6: Cyborg vs. Coenen 2 - July 13, 2013

- vs. Fiona Muxlow - Win via submission (armbar) - DREAM 18 - December 31, 2012

- vs. Romy Ruyssen - Win via decision (unanimous) - Invicta FC 1: Coenen vs. Ruyssen - April 28, 2012

- vs. Miesha Tate - Loss via submission (arm triangle choke) - Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson - July 30, 2011

- vs. Liz Carmouche - Win via submission (triangle choke) - Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson - March 5, 2011

Next scheduled appearance:

- Unknown

Comment: Yes, Coenen took a beating from Cyborg for the second time in her career. Too powerful, strong, big, Marloes gave it her best try but it was not enough. The Brazilian continues to be the big insurmountable obstacle of her career.

6) Alexis "Ally-Gator" Davis (16-5)

Height: 5'5

Weight (lbs.): 135

Birthday: October 4, 1984

Currently Fighting With: UFC

Last 5 fights:

- vs. Jessica Eye - Win via decision (split) - UFC 170: Rousey vs. McMann - February 22, 2014

- vs. Liz Carmouche - Win via decision (unanimous) - UFC Fight For The Troops 3 - November 6, 2013

- vs. Rosi Sexton - Win via decision (unanimous) - UFC 161: Evans vs. Henderson - June 15, 2013

- vs. Shayna Baszler - Win via submission (rear naked choke) - Invicta FC 4: Esparza vs. Hyatt - January 5, 2013

- vs. Hitomi Akano - Win via submission (rear naked choke) - Invicta FC 2: Baszler vs. McMann - July 28, 2012

Next scheduled appearance:

- Unknown

Comment: Davis scored a narrow win Saturday night over Jessica Eye, good for her fifth consecutive win (and third inside the octagon). While she has as good an argument as anyone else in the company to challenge Ronda Rousey next, she likely loses out on the opportunity if Cat Zingano is ready by the start of summer.

7) "The Karate Hottie" Michelle Waterson (11-3)

Height: 5'4

Weight (lbs.): 105

Birthday: January 6, 1986

Currently Fighting With: Invicta FC

Last 5 fights:

- vs. Jessica Penne - Win via submission (armbar) - Invicta FC 5: Penne vs. Waterson - April 5, 2013

- vs. Lacey Schuckman - Win via decision (split) - Invicta FC 3: Penne vs. Sugiyama - October 6, 2012

- vs. Diana Rael - Win via submission (rear naked choke) - Jackson's MMA Series 7 - January 21, 2012

- vs. Masako Yoshida - Win via TKO (strikes) - Crowbar MMA: Spring Brawl - April 24, 2010

- vs. Rosary Califano - Win via submission (flying armbar) - Beatdown at 4 Bears 6 - February 13, 2010

Next scheduled appearance:

- Unknown

8) Carla "Cookie Monster" Esparza (9-2)

Height: 5'1

Weight (lbs.): 115

Birthday: October 10, 1987

Currently Fighting With: UFC

Last 5 fights:

- vs. Bec Hyatt - Win via decision (unanimous) - Invicta FC 4: Esparza vs. Hyatt - January 5, 2013

- vs. Lynn Alvarez - Win via TKO (strikes) - Invicta FC 3: Penne vs. Sugiyama - October 6, 2012

- vs. Sarah Schneider - Win via TKO (strikes) - Invicta FC 2: Baszler vs. McMann - July 28, 2012

- vs. Felice Herrig - Win via decision (unanimous) - XFC 15: Tribute - December 2, 2011

- vs. Jessica Aguilar - Loss via decision (split) - Bellator 46 - June 25, 2011

Next scheduled appearance:

- vs. TBA - The Ultimate Fighter: Season 20 - Spring 2014

Comment: Esparza, the Invicta strawweight champion is one of the nearly dozen fighters signed by the UFC before the new year. They will compete in a tournament over the course of TUF's 20th season. It will begin filming in May and will not air on television until September so let's hope no news leaks out beforehand (as it did during the Kimbo Slice season).

9) Sara McMann (7-1)

Height: 5'5

Weight (lbs.): 135

Currently Fighting With: UFC

Last 5 fights:

- vs. Ronda Rousey - Loss via TKO (knee to the body) - UFC 170: Rousey vs. McMann - February 22, 2013

- vs. Sheila Gaff - Win via TKO (strikes) - UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen - April 27, 2013

- vs. Shayna Baszler - Win via decision (unanimous) - Invicta FC 2: Baszler vs. McMann - July 28, 2012

- vs. Hitomi Akano - Win via decision (unanimous) - ProElite 3: Da Spyder vs. Minowaman - January 21, 2012

- vs. Raquel Pa'aluhi - Win via submission (Kimura) - ProElite 1: Arlovski vs. Lopez - August 27, 2011

Next scheduled appearance:

- Unknown

Comment: McMann suffered the first loss of her professional career in about as disappointing a way imaginable, a knee to the liver about a minute into the action.

10) Sarah Kaufman (16-2, 1 No Contest)

Height: 5'5

Weight (lbs.): 135

Birthday: September 20, 1985

Currently Fighting With: UFC

Last 5 fights:

- vs. Jessica Eye - No Contest (originally a split decision loss) - UFC 166 - October 19, 2013

- vs. Leslie Smith - Win via decision (split) - Invicta FC 5: Penne vs. Waterson - April 5, 2013

- vs. Ronda Rousey - Loss via submission (armbar) - Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman - August 18, 2012

- vs. Alexis Davis - Win via decision (split) - Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey - March 3, 2012

- vs. Liz Carmouche - Win via decision (unanimous) - Strikeforce Challengers: Voelker vs. Bowling III - July 22, 2011

Next scheduled appearance:

- vs. Shayna Baszler - UFC Fight Night: Bisping vs. Kennedy - April 16, 2014

Comment: Kaufman had a loss taken off the record books in wake of Jessica Eye's marijuana-positive drug test. Now, she's training to fight Shayna Baszler in April in Canada in something of a must win situation.

11) Barb "Little Warrior" Honchak (8-2)

Height: 5'4

Weight (lbs.): 125

Birthday: August 30, 1978

Currently Fighting With: Invicta FC

Last 5 fights:

- vs. Leslie Smith - Win via decision (unanimous) - Invicta FC 7: Honchak vs. Smith - December 7, 2013

- vs. Vanessa Porto - Win via decision (unanimous) - Invicta FC 5: Penne vs. Waterson - April 5, 2013

- vs. Aisling Daly - Win via decision (unanimous) - Invicta FC 3: Penne vs. Sugiyama - October 6, 2012

- vs. Bethany Marshall - Win via TKO (strikes) - Invicta FC 2: Baszler vs. McMann - July 28, 2012

- vs. Roxanne Modafferi - Win via submission (rear naked choke) - BEP 5: Breast Cancer Beatdown - October 1, 2011

Next scheduled appearance:

- Unknown

Comment: Honchak, perhaps one of the most educated fighters in the sport, defended her flyweight title for the first time in December. With wins over Vanessa Porto and Leslie Smith, her next challenger will likely be a rising prospect. While Brazil's Kalindra Faria (12-3-1) remains unsigned in America, Invicta recently picked up a Polish prospect Joanna Jedrzeczyk (4-0), so she may be able to earn the next title fight if she scores a win in the coming months.

12) "Cupcake" Miesha Tate (13-5)

Height: 5'6

Weight (lbs.): 135

Birthday: August 18, 1986

Currently Fighting With: UFC

Last 5 fights:

- vs. Ronda Rousey - Loss via submission (armbar) - UFC 168: Weidman vs. Silva 2 - December 28, 2013

- vs. Cat Zingano - Loss via TKO (strikes) - UFC TUF 17 Finale - April 13, 2013

- vs. Julie Kedzie - Win via submission (armbar) - Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman - August 18, 2012

- vs. Ronda Rousy - Loss via submission (armbar) - Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey - March 3, 2012

- vs. Marloes Coenen - Win via submission (arm triangle choke) - Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson - July 30, 2011

Next scheduled appearance:

- vs. Liz Carmouche - UFC on Fox: Werdum vs. Browne - April 19, 2014

Comment: While we can criticize Tate's strategy during her most recent fight with Ronda Rousey in December (WHY DID SHE CHOOSE TO FIGHT THE CLINCH GAME AND SHOOT FOR TAKEDOWNS?!?!), she certainly left the MGM Grand with more fan support than she had entering the octagon. She'll be one of the featured fighters on the next Fox special in April, taking on Liz Carmouche in a match-up she should win.

13) Claudia Gadelha (11-0)

Birthday: December 7, 1988

Height: 5'3

Weight (lbs.): 115

Currently fighting with: UFC

Last 5 fights:

- vs. Ayaka Hamasaki - Win via TKO (strikes) - Invicta FC 6: Cyborg vs. Coenen 2 - July 13, 2013

- vs. Herica Tiburcio - Win via decision (unanimous) - Max Sports: 13.2 - May 11, 2013

- vs. Adriana Vieira - Win via TKO (strikes) - Shooto: Brazil 34 - September 21, 2012

- vs. Valerie Letourneau - Win via decision (split) - Wreck MMA: Road to Glory - April 20, 2012

- vs. Kalindra Faria - Win via submission (armbar) - Hard Fight Championship - September 25, 2010

Next scheduled appearance:

- vs. TBA - The Ultimate Fighter: Season 20 - Spring 2014

Comment: The 25-year-old Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion is one of the competitors in the upcoming TUF tournament.

14) Lauren Murphy (8-0)

Birthday: July 27, 1983

Height: 5'5

Weight (lbs.): 135

Currently fighting with: Invicta FC

Last 5 fights:

- vs. Miriam Nakamoto - Win via TKO (knee injury) - Invicta FC 7 - December 7, 2013

- vs. Sarah D'Alelio - Win via decision (unanimous) - Invicta FC 6 - July 13, 2013

- vs. Kaitlin Young - WIn via decision (unanimous) - Invicta FC 5 - April 5, 2013

- vs. Jennifer Scott - WIn via TKO (elbows) - Legacy FC 18 - March 1, 2013

- vs. Julia Griffin - Win via TKO (strikes) - Alaska Cage Fighting: Tribute to Veterans - October 28, 2011

Next scheduled appearance:

- Unknown

Comment: Murphy is the IFC bantamweight champion following her fourth-round win over Nakamoto in December and it sounds like she may have a fight with Cyborg on her hands this summer.

14) Jessica "Evil" Eye (10-2, 1 No Contest)

Height: 5'6

Weight (lbs.): 125

Birthday: July 27, 1986

Currently Fighting With: Bellator FC

Last 5 fights:

- vs. Alexis Davis - Loss via decision (split) - UFC 170: Rousey vs. McMann - February 22, 2014

- vs. Sarah Kaufman - No Contest (originally a split decision win) - UFC 166 - October 19, 2013

- vs. Carina Damm - Win via decision (unanimous) - NAAFS: Fight Night in the Flats 9 - June 1, 2013

- vs. Zoila Frausto Gurgel - Win via submission (rear naked choke) - Bellator 83 - December 8, 2012

- vs. Angela Magana - Win via decision (unanimous) - NAAFS: Rock N Rumble 6 - August 17, 2012

Next scheduled appearance:

- Unknown

Closing Comments: Felice Herrig and Zoila Gurgel received additional votes.
