The Tap-Out 05.11.06

Tito's pay for UFC 59 (it's a lot), PRIDE OWGP results, reader prediction standings, and the UFC 60 card. Plus, you tell me if Brock can cut it in the MMA world.
Hey hey hey. And here we go again. I am getting nervous with the seeming disappearance of the other MMA writers here at 411. I liked there stuff, so I am gonna assume it is a temporary thing and they will all be back.
OWGP Results are in! and so are the 411 reader standings…
Last week the PRIDE OWGP first round was completed. The results (taken straight from Sherdog) were:
Zentsov over Yvel - KO (Punch)
Werdum over Overeem - Submission (Kimura)
Hunt over Kosaka - TKO (Strikes)
Barnett over Aleksander Emelianeno - Submission (Keylock)
Fujita over Thompson - KO (Punch)
Cro Cop over Minowa - TKO (Strikes)
Big Nog over Zulu - Submission (Armbar)
Yoshida over Nishikima - Submission (Triangle Choke)
As for the predictions, I was surprised to actually get some entries. Between little heads up and this being a PRIDE event, I wasn't so sure. I forgot to pick the Yvel/Zentsov match, so I will take a big fat loss for that one. Doesn't matter… I am still in first place.
Caleb Newby: 6-2
Rezivoirdg: 5-3
Lofti: 5-3
Jojoblnk: 5-3
Huckaby: 5-3 (via the forums)
Andrew Mellick: 4-4 (and go check out his articles in the music section, he might not know MMA, but he knows music)
Which fights threw people off the most? Everyone picked Yvel to win. Overeem, Thompson, and Emelianenko split the votes as well. And for the sake of being kind, I won't say who picked Zulu to win.
UFC 60
UFC 60 is on its way with a fairly underwhelming undercard. Gracie vs. Hughes is the main selling point, and being hyped accordingly. I was really looking forward to Tanner vs. Horn, but Tanner is out being replaced by Chael Sonnen. I like Tanner and wanted to see that fight. Swick vs. Riggs is another selling point. I am rather bleh on that fight. Not the fight in and of itself, but it is no Diaz/Sherk.
Other matches include, Brandon Vera Vs. Assuerio Silva, Diego Sanchez Vs. John Alessio, Melvin Guillard Vs. Rick Davis, Spencer Fisher Vs. Leonard Garcia, Alessio Sakara Vs. Dean Lister, and Gabriel Gonzaga Vs. Fabiano Scherner.

Good for Tito for getting money like he wanted. Now if only the rest of the guys were making more. You gotta think UFC can afford dishing out more cash these days.
PRIDE coming to America on the boats and on the planes… they're coming to America…
Reports are coming in that PRIDE will be doing shows on American soil this upcoming fall. More MMA in America the better. While I enjoy the UFC, they need competition whether it is from PRIDE, the IFL, or whomever. So I am hoping for some rocking PRIDE shows with bigtime promotion here in the states to hook in the TUF crowd to the larger world of MMA.
Question of the week
Yeah, so this might not always be a weekly question, but this title sounds better than "On and off question of the week".
Question: With Brock dipping his toes into MMA how well will he do? Can he compete or will he get destroyed? And are there any other pro wrestlers that could make the transition to MMA? Why?
Responses will be put in next week's column. I am curious as to how everyone thinks this will play out.

And that's a wrap. Ultimate Fighter is on Thursday and this season has been great. Here's hoping Michael Bisping makes it to the finals. Cya guys later and let's hope that the other 411 MMA guys return.
