MMA’s Full 38’ 11.14.07: DVD Review - 2 Weeks Ago’s Night Fights: Seth Petruzelli Wins

Why wait six months to watch an MMA event you missed? Unlike the UFC, MMA Nigh Fights releases October 27th’s event this week. If you could not make it to Orlando like me, here’s a review of the DVD, but you should get a copy so you can watch Seth Petruzelli and Renato Tavares dominate.
The DVD, not wanting to keep us waiting, is out just weeks after the event. Ron Remus Productions and Lights Out Sports teamed up with MMA2TheMAX to get the action to the fans as fast as they could, and with little tradeoff, it was a great idea. In a night where Gracie students started and filled the night's excitement and where Buckeye MMA's Billy Vaugh and Renato Tavares put on a battle.
The first fight of the night saw the pro debuts of Josh Bacallao and Ezra Nines. Josh, the student of Team Gracie Ocala, made Ezra look insignificant and in over his head on the ground. Ezra may have escaped a few rear naked choke attempts, but was dominated until an easy defeat.
One of the most exciting fights for me was the battle between Billy Vaugh and American Top Team's Renato Tavares. Billy got some good shots in at the beginning of the first and only round, but the crowd favorite, as judged by the cheers in the audience, got the win by submission before the round ended.
Gracie Barra was represented as well, as Bruce Conners (3-0) brought his A game to the event. His opponent was Ben Pierce former Cole Miller training partner. Cole actually cornered him and had a few funny facts about Ben.
Cole Miller: "I went to middle school with him, and he was a 200 plus pound butterball when we graduated."
Now, with a much smaller frame, Ben came out in good shape but ran out of air thanks to the Gracie Barra fighter's huge arms.
The most heated contest was between Mikey Gomez and Steve Ramos. The announcers noted there were some heated words at the weight in. Even a claim that one of the fighters had bought his Black Belt, rather than had earned it. You can tell for yourself if that claim was true or not.
In the main event Seth Petruzelli, a man with a win over Dan "The Beast" Severn came to battle. Seth is a big guy with a loss to the Ultimate Fighter Matt Hamill but can brag about taking a stand up K-1 bout with Bob "The Beast" Sapp. Unlike the bout with the Japanese fan favorite Bob Sapp, this fight would go Seth's way. His opponent though was much less terrifying than Bob was, and probably only two-thirds the size.
Make sure to pick up this DVD and see the event for yourself and help support smaller MMA shows who can please the fans with fast turnarounds on DVD production: www.mma2themax.com/buydvd.html

And for those of you wondering what is MMA's Full 38' It means: an octagon is 30 ft across with 4 feet extra on each side, for cornermen, doctors and camera crew. To know MMA, sometimes one needs to make sure they cover some of the lesser know aspects of it, and 38' represents a number a lot of hardcore fans would not recognize. But be warned, do not try to set up an arena without knowing how big the octagon really is, or there will be problems.
