The Ultimate eXperience 06.29.08: WAMMA = Some Insane Fights
Posted by Ryan Seymour on 06.29.2008

WELCOME TO THE ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE.

UFC 88 has recently had the addition of two huge fights. UFC welterweights Karo "The Heat" Parisyan (18-5) and Japan's Yoshiyuki "Zenko" Yoshida (10-2) are rumored to fight each other. Also ‘Dangerous' Dan Henderson is rumored to be facing of against submission specialist Rousimar Palhares.

Henderson against Palhares is a very intriguing fight and this fight could give Dan Henderson some trouble. Three out of Dan Henderson's seven losses have came the way of submission. Dan Henderson doesn't really have a big weakness but Rousimar Palhares's submission skills might just be good enough to submit ‘Dangerous' Dan Henderson. Anyone who thinks that Palhares is just a can and they are feeding him to Dan Henderson, is completely wrong. We have yet to see the best of Dan Henderson inside the octagon, as he is coming of two straight losses. Granted he lost to current UFC champions in Quinton ‘Rampage' Jackson and Anderson Silva.

As for Karo "The Heat" Parisyan against Yoshiyuki "Zenko" Yoshida, it's a real toss up. I have never really liked Karo Parisyan, something about him hasn't appealed to me. It might be because before his fight with Thiago Alves, he said he wanted to fight an easier opponent then Jon Fitch to get his title shot. Yoshida was extremely dominant in his fight against ‘War Machine' at UFC 84 . Yoshida's skills are still an unknown as we only got to see 56 seconds of his fight against War Machine before he was able to submit him. I have a feeling that Karo Parisyan is going to win this fight, but I am hoping that Yoshida gives us an exciting knockout or submission.

WAMMA – Dream Fights

With everyone talking about WAMMA and the possibility of #1 and #2 ranked fighters in there division facing of, it got me thinking. I thought about the fights it would allow us to see and there are some real insane fights we would be able to watch. Here's my breakdown on some of the sick fights we would be able to see if this WAMMA thing actually worked. Although the chance of WAMMA working is slim to none.

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira IV
Both of these heavyweights are currently as high as they can get in there organizations. Nogueira is currently the interim heavyweight champion of the UFC and should really be called the clear heavyweight champion as Randy Couture isn't going to fight in the UFC again. Fedor has had the better of Nogueira in their past meetings but it has been 3 and a half years since they last fight. Also if this fight happened inside a UFC octagon then questions could be asked about how Fedor would go as a lot of PRIDE stars have had troubles with the 5 minute rounds and the cage as well.

Urijah Faber vs. Norifumi ‘KID' Yamamoto
Ask any hardcore MMA fan and they would say that this fight has to happen. Urijah Faber has been so dominant in the featherweight division in WEC and is currently ranked as the #1 featherweight in the world. Norifumi ‘KID' Yamamoto has doesn't get much spotlight to American fans as he has fought mainly in Japan with the organization K-1. In K-1, KID Yamamoto has been able to defeat some great fighters such as Royler Gracie, Caol Uno etc. Also both fighters have only been to the judges three times and are known to having exciting fights, and this is one of these fights THAT HAS TO HAPPEN!~!!!!!.

Roger Gracie vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

Yet to happen yet, but I think it would be sensational to have two great jiu-jitsu names against each other. Gracie vs. Nogueira would be a great show of jiu-jitsu, everyone knows what Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is capable of with his submissions and Roger Gracie is a Gracie. Also Roger Gracie has won multiple Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) medals for his jiu-jitsu skills. Although Roger Gracie is inexperienced in his MMA career, there is a lot of potential for Roger Gracie and there is people (including myself) who think he will be a force to be reckoned with.

Shinya Aoki vs. BJ Penn
Shinya Aoki has to be the favorite to win the DREAM tournament coming up after great wins over Gesias Calvancante and Katsuhiko Nagata (great gogoplata). Both Penn and Aoki are known for their great flexibility and also the great jiu-jitsu skills both fighters have. Where Aoki might have a disadvantage in, is the striking. BJ Penn has been able to show some improved striking recently and doesn't rely on his ground game as much. Shinya Aoki's jiu-jitsu skills are just sensational, Aoki is trained jiu-jitsu by the legendary and arguably one of the best jiu-jitsu practitioners in Eddie Bravo.

Takanori Gomi vs. BJ Penn II
The first fight between these two fighters happened in a tiny organization called Rumble at the Rock and BJ Penn was able to pull the win out. I think the fans deserve to see Penn and Gomi on a bigger stage and also it would be great to see another UFC champ against PRIDE champion. BJ Penn is known as one of the most flexible and talented fighters in the world and Dana White believes that Penn would be able to concur anything, even lately Dana said he would easily defeat Kimbo Slice. In Gomi's 15 fights in PRIDE, he only suffered one loss while defeating such good fighters as Ralph Gracie, Jens Pulver, Hayato Sakurai etc. If the UFC would like BJ Penn to stay at lightweight, a rematch with Takanori Gomi would be exceptional as Gomi is one of the few lightweights out there which I think could give Penn some troubles.

dude...WAMMA isn't necessary for these fights to happen...all that is necessary if for Dana White to put the fans first and do away with exclusive contracts...and your logic for nogiera/fedor isn't what i'd call real logic....dude, nogiera is a pride fighter and he's done pretty well in the octogan...so has Rampage and Anderson Silva for that matter...i mean, if you were saying Fedor was to fight Randy in a cage it might be a point...but whatever....if it were a "WAMMA" fight, why the hell would it have to be in a cage? is WAMMA buying off 411 writers?

Romano -
Dana White won't do that.

On the column -
Good read. I don't think Nog/Fedor would go any differently in a cage though. Kid/Faber would be awesome as would the vastly under-appreciated Wagnney Fabiano
against either of the two. Eddie Alverez might just have to replace Aoki in that superfight with Penn , but we'll find that out soon enough. Anderson Silva Vs Manhoef would no doubt be explosive, GSP Vs Shields might also not be as one sided as most people seem to think.
