The Ground and Pound 10.31.08: I Just “Ain’t” Right!
Posted by John Curry on 10.31.2008

That's right ladies and gentleman. I am back. After some misfires in my body system as a result of an infection, I am finally well enough to start bringing my inclusive genius back to the MMA world. Let me say before we begin thank you to those who checked in on me and to those of you who didn't you can kiss my ass. Now a lot has gone on since the last time the Ground and Pound. So rather than try to focus on one specific thing and considering I have something pretty great in the works I just take a short look at many of the things that happened while I was gone.

First of All the cure for Staph Infections is:

Die! Die! Die EliteXC!

Well apparently the biggest news to everyone except me was the end of the EliteXC and ProElite. Now while everyone has blamed this on the fact that Kimbo Slice lost to an "Ultimate Fighter Failure", the reality is there are only two people who killed the organization and any potential for the show to succeed, and that belongs to Jared Shaw and Gary Shaw. At no other time have I seen such a squandering of an opportunity by two gutless, useless and disillusioned individuals. It wasn't the fact that Kimbo was defeated or knocked out by someone who was relatively unknown. Everyone saw Kimbo "win" against Thompson when it is extremely apparent that he should have lost by TKO or submission at the least. Think for a second how lowly Thompson was and then to see how protected Kimbo was against him. With this being said it is the moronic decisions made by Gary Shaw, to pimping and protecting Kimbo and ignoring the real marketable fighters he had such as Jake Shields or Cyborg or Gina but to build the entire organization around Kimbo was a rookie mistake made by someone who supposedly knew the business that helped kill off the EliteXC. The final nail in the coffin came courtesy of Jared Shaw and his dumbass rushing the cage screaming like a drunken fan that just lost his kids college money on this fight on national television proved that if CBS were to join up with EliteXC they would be entering into a contract with a childish company. In all the rants I have had against the UFC just because they won't return my calls, the one thing I can't say about Dana White is I have never seen him jump up and down and scream like a moron when a fighter loses. It was not Kimbo's fault he lost, it wasn't Seth's, or any of the fighters fault. The fault lies solely in Jared and Gary Shaw's piss poor Vince McMahon impression that came off just as successful as Vince Russo's WCW impression.

Seth Petruzelli

Stop acting like Seth's win over Kimbo is some big deal. It really wasn't. Just because you haven't heard of them prior to a fight does not mean that they are not legit fighters. For the love of fighting it wasn't as if I knocked Kimbo Slice out. A professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter with experience under his belt took the fight at the last minute and beat Kimbo. Yeah I concede it wasn't the best looking fight, nor was it the most dominant knockout I have ever seen but a win is a win. My dad always told me something growing up about professional sports. No matter how bad a third string quarterback plays he is still better than 95% of the rest of the world at his sport. So remember just because Seth Petruzelli "upset" Kimbo Slice doesn't mean that any of us have any more of a chance of beating either of them in a fight.

Patrick Cote owes me 5 bucks

I bet a guy that Silva would lose to Cote and his dumb ass goofing around had me believing that it was just about to happen. Then Cote's leg just gave out on him. Yeah, it was obvious that either Silva was toying with Cote or that he was genuinely too hesitant to do what he needed to do to win. Either way in the end I walked away with two simple facts about Anderson Silva: 1) He is not the best pound for pound fighter in the world and 2) He needs his ass kicked. I pray to see him get his ass kicked. Oh do I. I will convert to Catholicism just to light a prayer candle to the Saint Whoop His Ass for all I care. I also want to make it a point that going 3 rounds and losing is no better than going 1 round and losing. A loss is a loss no matter how long it takes.

Finally Little Evil Comes knocking

Just a short note. I am intrigued to see how well Jens Pulver comes back from his loss to Uriah Faber. While I have talked to Jens Pulver personally and consider him to be one of the most genuine fighters in the world, I do say this with great respect and fear that he knows where I live, I hope that he has found that killer instinct that makes him such a dangerous fighter. It was gone against Uriah and I hope that he has found a way to believe that he will kill his opponent if he can. Find your inner Evil Jens and Uriah will be back up your alley in no time.

Bartimus debuts in the WEC

For those of you who haven't followed MMA for very long there is one fighter you should follow just out sheer fact that he will make you laugh nonstop, and he is Bart "Bartimus" Paleszewski. When I met with Bart and Jeff Curran up in Chicago for a couple beers the guy had me rolling non-stop. Aside from his humor he is a great, great fighter. You will definitely be happy with this guy. This is someone the WEC will build around.

Kiss my Ass Junie

There I said it. Kiss my ass. You are an embarrasment to the sport of MMA and your involvment sets the sport back 10 years.

Until Later

Until next time check out this video my boy "The Brian" (don't tell him I called him that as he'll hate me forever) sent to me:

By that logic, appoximately 350,000,000 people are better. Now that is genius.
