411's MMA Rankings 02.17.09: Heavyweight Division
Posted by Dustin James on 02.17.2009

Welcome back to the final edition of 411's MMA Rankings that will be written by yours truly. As I mentioned in yesterday's final edition of "The Ultimate Writer", I'm leaving 411's MMA zone for other opportunities but don't worry...it won't be the last time you see 411's MMA Rankings! Next week someone new will be here and then you will get to bust their balls on a weekly basis about how bad these rankings suck. Good luck mystery writer....you are going to need it!

As for the rankings this week? This week we are ranking the heavyweight division which I'm actually hoping will just get re-named the "Fedor Division". Who is considered Fedor's top challenger in the heavyweight division? Is it his good friend Josh Barnett? What about UFC Heavyweight Champions Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar? Better yet, how far does former #2 Andrei Arlovski fall after losing to Fedor at "Day Of Reckoning"? All these questions get answered......NOW!!!!

Last Year At This Time

1. Fedor Emelianenko

2. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria

3. Gabriel Gonzaga

4. Tim Sylvia

5. Andrei Arlvoski

6. Mirko Cro Cop

7. Cheick Kongo

8. Ben Rothwell

9. Fabricio Werdum

10. Sergei Kharitonov

Brandon Vera, Aleksander Emelianenko, Jeff Monson, Jake O'Brien, and Tim Hague, were "On the bubble"

411's MMA Ranking Rules

- If a fighter hasn't fought in a year, he can not be ranked. It's not fair to people who are fighting to not be ranked because a fighter is taking a year off. The rule also applies to specific divisions. If a fighter hasn't fought in a weight division in a year he is no longer eligible to be ranked. However, if a fighter schedules a fight he is still eligible for being ranked.

- If you wish to complain about a fighter's ranking in the comments section, then please include an objective reason as to why you don't like the ranking, and remember "if u rite lik thiss" then your opinion doesn't matter.

- 411's MMA Rankings are voted on by the MMA staff of 411mania. So if you are an MMA fighter and hate where you are ranked, beating just me up would be unnecessary. You would have to beat us all up, and when we are all together.....we are not dangerous at all, I won't lie to you.

I agree for the most part with 1-10... but it falls apart quickly after that.

I agree with the rankings totally. but just a side note: the pictures u picked for the fighters were ridiculous. Fedor all beat up, Lesnar with a pro-wrestling belt, and Couture playing with his dog?!?

and don't get me started on how much of a faggot you make Tim Silvia look like...

i'd put overeem over gonzaga

Seriously...where the FUCK IS SHANE CARWIN?

Posted By: Saint (Guest)  on February 17, 2009 at 01:03 AM

Id put Mir over Fedor.. He beat Timmy when Timmy was Timmy..(champ) he also has dramatic wins over big nog and Lesnar..(who you have in the top five)..Q; Who has Fedor beaten lately in the top five??

Posted By: stoker dafire (Guest)  on February 17, 2009 at 03:23 AM

Lesnar and Mir are ranked way too high.

Please STFU. Just like Anderson Silva and GSP in their respective weight classes, there is no debate about who the top HW is.

That being said, I think I'd have Mir #2 instead of Barnett. Having consecutive wins over Minotauro and Lesnar is damn impressive.

And like everyone said, needs more Carwin.

This is the first time I've seen the HW MMA rankings that didn't look like a bunch of smark douche-bag nonsense. Good job!

A suggestion: List round and fight time as well for the finished fights...

Posted By: Colin (Guest)  on February 17, 2009 at 10:56 AM

Great job with the rankings. I agree 100 percent with 1 through 9. I would put Timmy at number 10 because his recent losses were to top notch competition. Other than that, I think these ratings are spot on.

Posted By: Topper (Guest)  on February 17, 2009 at 11:20 AM

Ha, you got Brock holding the IWGP title.

Posted By: Todd Vote (Registered)  on February 17, 2009 at 11:33 AM

Seriously, your ranking are a joke. As someone said, who has Fedor beaten in the top 5. Christ, who's he beaten in his prime??? And you still have Tim Sylvia in the top 15??? You guys on crack???? The guy should barely crack a Top 25 at best.

Posted By: Butters4Prez (Guest)  on February 17, 2009 at 02:21 PM

fedor is way over rated dude, so you STFU and GFYS..MARK HUNT AND MATT LINDLUND WASHED UP TIMMY AND THAT'S SUPPOSED TO MAKE HIM #1??? WTF?? nad there is a fucking debate becasue im debating itwith you,,gsp and anderson..i agree with *but not Fedor; ..beating up Asians middleweights and circus freaks..doesn't make you #1..

Posted By: stoker dafire (Guest)  on February 17, 2009 at 02:38 PM

Get Couture off that, the guy has fights from almost 4 years ago on his Latest Fights, that is pathedic. He should be on the list, but further down. His only recent fight is a loss, his ranking is based off what he did years ago, not what can do right now or has done recently.

To stoker dafire, you are an idiot. Reading your comment made me feel like I got beat with a bag full of stupid.

I like these rankings, I generally do even though it's cool to hate them and call everyone stupid. I'd drop Gonzaga down quite a bit though- he lost and was finished twice in a row, and has only beaten 2 guys since, neither one of them being any where near a top 20 ranking. I guess after Carwin takes him out on the 7th (yes I'm calling it!) we won't have to worry about seeing him on the rankings anymore anyway though haha.
