Time-Warner to Drop HDNet by May 31st

That’s the latest…
- Time-Warner Cable's website has updated their message regarding HDNet, and it appears as if the channel will be gone by May 31st, 2009. They were going to drop service a few months ago, but negotiations between both sides kept the channel on the air. If Time-Warner Cable drops HDNet, this would hurt not only ROH TV, but also the numerous MMA groups that run on the channel. Here is the message from Time-Warner Cable:
From time to time we make certain changes in the services that we offer in order to better serve our customers. The following changes are planned:
* On or about May 31, 2009 we will no longer carry HD Net Movies on ch. 797 and HD Net on ch. 798.
* On or about June 1, 2009 we will launch MAV TV HD on ch. 787. This service will be part of the HD Xtra tier.
"...we make certain changes in the services that we offer in order to better serve our customers."
How does that better serve us? They're taking a channel away. They already charge an assload for cable. Does anyone know anything about MAV TV? Are they anything like an HDNet?

MAV TV Sucks. That's what we get up here in Canada. No MMA, just windsurfing and shit in HD. This sucks. If you have Time Warner cable, call and complain.

HDnet was shut down by WWE since they feared ROH

MAV TV's biggest saving grace is that they carry Womens' Flat Track Roller Derby. This is a far cry from the scripted spectacle that found its hey day in the '70's. It is 100% sport and pure athleticism. It will be a welcome addition to our television.

those WFTDA roller derby bouts were the only programing I ever watched on MavTV. I think MAV did an amazing job of shooting and producing the "bout-casts" and I hope to see more from them or another sports channel (versus, ESPN 8, SPIKE) sometime in the not so distance future!

Big mistake by TW. MMA fans will go nuts. they are hugely devoted to those that support their sport. i predict mass defections. whether that will be meaningful to TW i don't know but they will definitely feel it.

Bull. I woke up this morning to find the Smithsonian Channel where Arrested Development should have been. How many Time Warner subscribers are really looking to find information about the Smithsonian?
