Germany Will Not Allow Fans 17 and Under to Attend UFC 99
Posted by Larry Csonka on 05.19.2009

According to Yahoo! Sports, there has been a lot of negative press regarding the UFC running in Germany, so much so that Germany will not allow fans under the age of 18 to attend the event. The saddest part about this is that the negative publicity has included the use of incorrect information, including the outdated belief that the UFC bans only biting and eye-poking. Child protective services of Cologne asked for the ban. Dana White commented, saying…

"The U.K. was the same way. People are scared of this. You can tell people there's never been a death, never been a serious injury, all day long. It's a never-ending job."

"UFC bans only biting and eye-poking"
So their information is from UFC V or VI? Some tell Germany that it is not 1995 anymore? (I think Wrestling Fans need to be told this as well... but I am not man enough to do that!)

I honestly woudln't be surprised if some crooked boxing promoters, fearing the popularity of MMA growing, tried to sow some disinformation in Germany. Boxing is very popular there, and this event steps on their toes a bit.

Only ignorance is stunting the further expansion of MMA now as a sport. Yeah, it's easy for old farts like John McCain to look at the early UFCs, which were more deregulated tough man contests than actual competitions, and say "this is too brutal", but fighters are protected so much better now. If they'd just open their eyes for a second, they'd see that.

No serious injuries?

So Corey Hill's injury was but a scratch?

Typical Germany, they are extreme in whatever direction they go. Now they're conservative Nazis...you know that you can't even buy GTA there? That country sucks ass.

Well it shouldn't be for people under 18 anyway. You've got women in basically their underwear walking around with big cards between rounds. And it is still a fight, no matter what the rules are. There are usually a lot of drunks there as well.

I don't even know how a kid under 18 would have the money to buy the tickets. I don't see why this is a big deal. If your idea of family entertainment is heading to the UFC, you've got a dysfunctional family.

Also that's why sherdog sucks so much, it's a bunch of 14 year old nerds that are busy e-thugging it up on the internet.

Well, I guess they won't be going back to Germany anytime soon...

Most sports events have women in skimpy clothes (cheerleaders) and drunks in the crowd. Get a grip grampa.

No, it's kids who are protected from stuff like this that end up crazy. If you think watching UFC before you are 18 will have a negative effect then you are dumb. It's the same with TV shows, watching the Family Guy when you are 12 isn't going to make you a serial killer or anything.

But am I the only person who finds this funny? All the kids have to do is get a fake ID to get in.

What the fuck are you talking about? I bought every single game in the GTA series in a normal store here.

It's not a bad thing, annoying little bastards are always in the way when I'm on a beer run between fights
