WEC Lightweight Champion Jamie Varner To Be Stripped of Belt

Cerrone vs. Henderson will be for WEC lightweight title, and Varner may never fight again!

According to Five Ounces of Pain WEC founder and general manager Reed Harris stated that Jamie Varner may never fight again due to the broken hand and foot he received in his last fight.

It is being reported that Varner will be stripped of his title and the fight between Cerrone and Henderson will now be for the vacant lightweight title. The fight will be the main event at WEC 43 which is set for September 2 in Youngstown, Ohio.

Sux for Varner, but I think he'll eventually come back. Henderson comes out of nowhere to fight for a title? WAR COWBOY!

Are his injuries so severe he wont come back....ever? It seems like unless he is retiring that they shouldnt strip him of the title. Its not like he is dodging cowboy a la KJ Noons. If someone cant get medically cleared to fight, should the title be stripped? I dont think so. Im not a big fan of Interim titles so Im not pushing that, but unless he is dodging opponents or retiring, I dont like this decision.

His injury may be similar to that of Yao Ming (just in different places). Just injuries that never fully heal and are recurring. You should never count anyone out though until they count themselves out. Just look at The Natural

just went up in mmajunkie. Reed Harris says that it is for the interm title and his comments were hypothetical in the event that varner couldn't come back
