UFC Could Ban Fighters If They Appear In EA's MMA Video Game
Posted by Ashish on 07.02.2009
UFC not playing around when it comes to video games...
A rumor is going around that UFC has made it known among MMA managers that anyone who agrees to appear in the upcoming EA Sports MMA game will be banned from UFC for life. EA issued a "no comment" in response to the story.

Damn that sucks. Fuck the Ufc!

Also real quick does that include people who are already in the Ufc videogame? Or can they still be used in the game if they want to? If there not in the Ufc videogame?

Weren't there rumors of Fedor being in this game? Do they really want him banned for life?

Since you posted this in the MMA and Game section, you forgot to add this to the Wrestling Section. Since Brock is in the UFC Game and that Lashley might be affected.

Now, it's one thing for the guys who signed the non-compete to be in the game to have to abide by this as they would be breaching their contract, but it's quite another for the guys retained the rights to their likeness and name to be singled out. I would imagine it would actually be illegal and could be a first step in anti-trust litigation against UFC.
And who's the biggest name that wouldn't sign? Randy Couture. And who is most likely to sue UFC? Randy Couture.
Looks like Randy and Dana may be heading for another collision.

As they should. Why let EA make money off their hard work.

Really...does it?
After that elloquent argument, please explain this: why in Hell should the UFC allow their fighters, associated by more than a few fans with the UFC, to appear in a game competing with THEIR branded game, which will make someone else money and cost them royalties? Hm? Do you HAVE a reasonable response?
For that matter, I'm not even sure what there would be to complain about. I'm sure there will be Create-A-Fighter options, not to mention possibly at least a few known fighters NOT under contract with the UFC who WILL allow their likenesses to be included.
Honestly, what is so wrong in this country with protecting one's right to make money? The UFC is a business, being run in accordance with sound business principles.

Of course if Fedor is in it, and then wants to come to UFC, Im sure they will forget they ever said that.
Posted By: gfg (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 04:07 PM
A. It's a rumor, b. Anyone who was in the ufc game won't be able to be in the ea game since they signed they're rights away
Posted By: condrab (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 04:38 PM
Wow, no Randy Couture in the UFC anymore? Nice try Dana :D

Why the f post this in the Wrestling section idiot !
Brock doesn't wrestle anymore and hasn't wrestled for WWE since 2004 ! And a few spots in Japan with indy guys and Kurt Angle in 2005 !
Lashely doesn't and hasn't wrestled for WWE in over a year save his spot he made in TNA 1 time recently !
besides how would this effect lashly ? He isn not in UFC nor is UFC interested in him !
THEY ARE NOR PRO WRESTLERS ANYMORE !!!!!!
Besides this is just rumor mill ! BS Dana White would have clearly said it in his blog that man is also an idiot but he is not afraid to let the world know what he's thinking !

What a retarded move by the UFC - will they ban Machida (who is rumored to be in the EA game)?? What a bunch of fuckwits - I'm sick of the UFC and their bullshit contract negotiations.
Posted By: Craig (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 05:32 PM
Considering what they went through with AKA - and firing / rehiring the fighters in order to sign their rights away to the UFC for Undisputed... this really isn't any surprise.
The UFC has a licensing agreement with THQ for their fighters- if a fighter were to put themselves in another game, it would put the UFC in a very bad spot.
The only question that comes out of this is - what about guys like Randy... who already had a deal with EA long before they were resigned and the UFC had their deal with THQ.

Sean,
The way this reads implies it's ALL MMA fighters, not just those under UFC contract.

Holy shit. Calm down you freakazoids. It's just a rumor. I was just writing in my diary and thinking out loud while Nick Diaz was under my desk servicing me. I didn't know he'd blab about it. Besides, fuck you all

Ok, What!?
What constitutes a wrestler being professional or being amateur? Does a professional wrestler act in the WWE? Does that make them professionals? If that's the case, Mayweather, Pacquiao, and De la Hoya must be amateur cuz they don't act in a WBE show. Brock and Bobby ARE wrestlers. They've wrestled their whole lives and they still use wrestling as their bread-and-butter to win fights. That's why this was put in 411mania.com/wrestling

With the quality of CAF modes in this day in age it really doesnt matter to me. What matters is which game is better. My Fedor CAF in Undisputed is so close to the real thing that I barely remember he isn't in the game. I'm sure EA's CAF mode will be just as good if not better and people are always going to make whoever they want to play with anyway. So to me it really doesn't matter who is in which game.

Because there are some good fighter's who still make shit money in the Ufc. They cant make money thru sponsor's cause some are banned. Hear about that recently here on 411mania.com? Some of them I cant think of any were or are sponsored before ufc banned the sponsor's.

You always hear people bashing UFC but in a real life scenario all the other MMA companies are A. Not as popular/well known enough to do this. B. Going bankrupt so they lend out fighters for cross promotion. So with the draw power the UFC has and nobody can touch it seems these contracts they put out actually mean something and they are still making money and getting bigger.
Posted By: Daniel (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 09:33 PM
i wonder how this will work out for couture. my understandings is that he already as a deal worked out with EA. don't know the details but it is possible that they already owe the rights to his likeness and name.
Posted By: darkskies (Guest) on July 02, 2009 at 11:22 PM
It's stupid to allow any of your contract fighters to appear in a MMA video game that directly competes against the UFC one. Same goes with letting them fight in other promotions like Strikeforce, etc. So why the hate?
And if Fedor or any other fighters who are not with UFC, appears in the EA MMA game, and then signs with UFC. It will be completely fine. Just a pointless bluff by the UFC.
Everybody starts outside the UFC. UFC has to bring in fighters outside for new talents after the fighters ride an impressive winning streak. EA would probably have them in the game well before they are signed by UFC. So unless UFC quits searching for new talents, they are in no position to stop others appearing in the EA game. Simple logic.

kimbo slice will be in the next ufc, pumped

Maybe those guys who jump ship to EA's game want to be in a game with an accesible submission system.
Posted By: jay (Guest) on July 03, 2009 at 05:05 PM
Danas SOOOOOO full of shit....hes saying that if Brock, Mir, Silva(s), wanted to be in this game hes gonna fire his biggest stars...YEAH FUCKING RIGHT!!!!...Dana has no actual rights to actual names and if EA makes a better game than Dana, oh well. there has been like 3-4 previous UFC games, (that ALL sucked) and if he cant get it right by now...OH FUCKING WELL!!!
Dana, go spit your bullshit to Tito!

I fucking hate Dana's "I'm a new-york badass" attitude sometimes. If he thinks he gonna ban Randy and not get a major fan backlash he crazy. Dana, without the fighters u have NO business.
