Shane Carwin Says That Brock Lesnar Has A Long Way To Go To Earn The Respect Of A Champion
Posted by Larry Csonka on 07.13.2009

- UFC Heavyweight Title Contender Shane Carwin posted a new blog, discussing UFC Undisputed Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar, here are the highlights…

On Lesnar's Post Fight Antics: "The main card did not let us down. Each match was put together perfectly and in the end the fans got to see a great display of technique, talent and heart. I cannot say I was surprised by anything that night other then Brock's reaction to beating a very tough Frank Mir. Frank is a legend and a great guy who got out powered not out classed. The sponsor issue, you need to talk to your manager not the fans or Dana. The flipping off of the fans that just lined your pocket with millions of dollars is just LAME. He may be a Champion but he has a long ways to go before he earns the respect of a Champion. The fans are why we do this Brock, this sport is not about fat paychecks and drama it is about hard work and sacrifice for a shot to do what you did last night. It doesn't matter how much money you make if you can't earn your peers respect and the respect and love of the greatest sporting fans in the world. We have no scripts in this sport, no pre-determined earning amount and no pre-determined outcomes. It doesn't matter if you win or loose it matters how you win or loose."

On His Future: From leaving the venue all the way to the Airport I have had fans of the sport ask me to take out Brock Lesnar for them. The thing is I have a very tough fight ahead of me that IMO is every bit as tough and talented as Brock. Cain is no joke and he may have had a tough fight against Kongo but I got rocked against Gonzaga. Fact is we are at the top of the HWT division and anyone we fight moving forward is going to be a real test. Cain is nothing short of a super athlete with amazing wrestling and he trains with one of the best camps in the country. I am sure Joe Silva told Cain the same thing he told us, winner gets the title shot. Cain is not looking past me he is looking right at me as the person that is in his way from potentially one of the greatest opportunities of his life and mine.

I really hope Carwin gets a shot against Lesnar, not because I hate Lesnar, but because I think it'd be a great fight featuring the two biggest HWs in the UFC.

Well, ya gotta get people to care about Shane Carwin some how I guess.

I guess Shane doesn't know that Mir is kind of a,i don't know, FUCKING DOUCHEBAG!

Getting your face punched in for 8 minutes straight is pretty much the definition of being out classed.

Keep disrespecting him and end up like the last two Legends he killed. Shane Carwin hasn't beat anybody to have his own web-site, let alone talk about what its like to be a champ.

Guy sounds Butthurt.

Frank Mir is a legend? Really?

Does that make Lesnar the UFC's legend-killer?

Posted By: GeeSpotter (Guest)  on July 13, 2009 at 02:38 PM

Dear Mr. Carwin,

You got lucky against Gonzaga and have fought alot of cans and no names. You landed a freak of nature lucky shot at the VERY END after getting dominated. (See Mir, Frank) Brock Lesnar will take you down and keep your "all fights end in the first round" record in tact, just not in your favor.

Posted By: JP (Guest)  on July 13, 2009 at 02:39 PM

sorry shane but you got no chance in hell of 'taking brock out' for anybody. you step into the cage with that man and you will be destroyed.

And before the inevitable commenters saying I'm only on Brock's nuts because of his past win, let me tell you that I have been saying on this site since he debuted in Japan that the UFC was in for an overhaul in the heavyweight division once he got there.

Carwin is a class act and realizes that even if you do think your opponent (Mir) is a douche, you don't act like that. It's called sportsmanship and all the greatest coaches of all time know it's important. Ask Tony Dungy.

damn lol i was afraid of this. carwin is my 2nd HW brock being my 1st. now i have to cheer for shane to loose lol cause brock will destroy cain. but truth be told i would love to c lesnar/carwin but damn i would hate to c brock get KTFO. and yall say the UFC HW div. sucks? well tell me where it can go wrong with brock as a heel champ and all the poss. of beloved fighters out there clawing at the oppertunity like cain, shane, randy, big nog, fedor, mir(w/ a couple wins) as well as the potenial of bobby lashley and TUF season 10. welcome to 2010 the HW era.

gee... I don't know how Brock continues to move so well, not because of how big he is, but because of how many marks are hangin from his nuts. It's pathetic. Ya know... He was flippin you off too, assholes.

so i guess shanes win over gonzaga was just because he out classed him right?

god. i had respect and kinda liked shane.. but dont walk around talking like ur the freakin man, cuz you might of beat gonzaga, but .. ya thats all you beat.. that has any credibility.

Your comments make Brock hungry...Brock will eat Carwin. He is the Highlander of the HW division...with each man that falls, he keeps getting stronger...THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!!

And no...Brock wasn't giving ME the finger...he was giving the HATERS the finger. I've been a fan of this big bastard since Division 1 dominance, through his developmental deal with WWE (where I was fortunate enough to see him do a SSP WITHOUT killing himself in OVW), through his reign of terror in WWE, his shot at the Vikings, and now his MMA career. The guy is a beast and probably one of the most dominant athletes of ANY sport.

Plus, who the fuck doesn't secretly love being the heel?

No Beezy428, he flipped YOU off-the Mir nuthugger. I was rooting for my WWE boy and he stuck his BIG WWE unit up Mir's tiny UFC a**. By the looks of it, seems like you felt it as well.

And i guess the Lesnar-Carwin fight is going to be the same way Lesnar-Mir 2 went. Shane trashes Brock being a "fake fighter",then Brock pounds his face in,and then Brock makes the perfect moment by flicking Shane off if he ever wakes up in time.

Posted By: jonah (Guest)  on July 13, 2009 at 03:19 PM

Brock Smash!!

Posted By: Brock Lesnar (Guest)  on July 13, 2009 at 03:21 PM

Wow. With assholes like this being contenders, Brock's gonna be HW champ for awhile. Im thinking Carwin is going to lose to Cain anyways, so this really dont matter. I guess Carwin can show how much he loves Mir when he has to fight him.

Posted By: gfg (Guest)  on July 13, 2009 at 03:29 PM

Remember some other disrespectful blonde headed UFC star that flipped off one or more UFC stars?!? OH yea Tito Ortiz disrespected the "Lions' Den" members calling one of them a slang. But what Brock did was disrespectful as a champion?!? W/E! Carwin two words for you, BROCK SMASH!

Posted By: guest1228 (Guest)  on July 13, 2009 at 03:37 PM

Dear Shane Carwin,

Frank Mir was a raging dickwad leading up to his fight with Brock Lesnar. He desrved to get his ass whipped, and if not for Mazagatti being an idiot, he'd have gotten served in the first fight as well.

You have not won a fight of note. Shut the hell up and win against someone people have heard of. Then, if you can, try not to get killed by Brock too. But he'll probably beat you down like he did Mir and Herring. Because Brock feeds off of the hate and disrespect. It fuels him and he pretty much goes out of his way to pummel those who dis him (See: Mir and Herring).

All the best in picking your face up after Brock knocks it off. Unless Cain Velasquez does it first.

Trying to make a name for yourself by slagging off Brock is just LAME

Well I am glad that most of you people can see in to the future by saying Brock will knock out Carwin.

Posted By: BP (Guest)  on July 13, 2009 at 04:13 PM

I was a huge Brock Lesnar fan, but now I'm starting to have my doubts, seeing the morons who are getting extremely vocal about him now. Where were you guys since that first fight, when I was constantly on here defending him? Now he goes out and acts a fool, and all of a sudden, all the Diaz brothers' fans are jumping on the bandwagon. That's not something I want to be associated with.

Carwin's the only one in the UFC Heavyweight division right now that can give Brock any kind of a physical challenge, because he's got the size and strength that Brock has. While Brock's got the speed advantage, I'd wager that Carwin may actually hit harder. I guess time will tell.

And there's no way Carwin loses to Cain.

"We have no scripts in this sport, no pre-determined earning amount and no pre-determined outcomes. It doesn't matter if you win or loose it matters how you win or loose."
Still with this bullshit? Really?! Mir got served by a former WWE Superstar. Deal with it, meatheads!

I've been a fan since the OVW days as I don't watch any NCAA other than football. Reading about the monster made me curious and seeing him in videos and finally on tv made me love the character. As a person, you've always been able to tell he's a bit cocky and arrogant but he's ALWAYS been that way. The guy is a freak of nature and I've been a supporter from day 1. There may be other bandwagoners but if nothing else, UFC gained a legit fan in me as I have learned to appreciate the different aspects and fighters they have. Even when Brock eventually retires, I'll still be watching, but he's the one that no doubt got me interested and whether it's good news or bad, the fact is, what he did is gaining publicity which Dana can scowl all he wants, deep down he is LOVING IT.

Posted By: JP (Guest)  on July 13, 2009 at 05:28 PM

LOL Carwin needs some wins under his belt against some real contenders if he wants to run his mouth and have anybody that matters actually listen to him. SOmeday if he says his prayers and takes his vitamins maybe he can fight the big bad Lesnar and teach him some manners. What will probably actually happen though, is Carwin will get a shot, Carwin will talk shit about Lesnar right up until the fight, Lesnar will destroy Carwin in 2 rounds or less and then rub it in his face. So far, everyone that has shown respect for Lesnar has gotten it in return. He's a dick, what else do you douchebags expect???

Holy shit, now that Lesnar proved that he's big and strong almost everyone's on his nuts. I wonder what'll happen if Carwin beats Velasquez and Lesnar? Oh, I know, you nuthuggers will migrate again.

Man, Carwin's comes across as a huuuuuge manbitch here.

Hey Carwin, your saying the same shit Mir said...we get it. Why don't you tell us something we don't know about brock or his past. You haven't even beaten "Brown Pride" yet. Maybe you should pay attention to him instead.

Posted By: Dean (Guest)  on July 13, 2009 at 08:19 PM

Lesnar was respectful against Couture, because Couture showed Brock respect.
Piss Lesnar off, deal with the consequences.....simple.
Mir was an arrogant little cock-sucker, so no wonder Brock took great pleasure in ensuring his teeth were taken home in a baggy.
Flipping off the crowd?? Fuck 'em! They were cheering a disrespectful little pussy and Lesnar let them know he's number 1.
As for Carwin, just another victim.

Posted By: dennett316 (Guest)  on July 13, 2009 at 09:20 PM

Brock tried to be respectful and everything when he started, but people just wanted to badmouth him. Now after he's been impressive in the past 3 victories, people still badmouth him. Each and every person would do the same thing in Brock's position. Sure he may take it a little far, but that's being a smart entertainer. You people are acting like this is the first time anyone has trashtalked in MMA. Stop acting like MMA is a perfect, flawless sport with nothing wrong with it. Brock is doing nothing that other MMA fighters haven't already done, he's just much better at it then anyone before him.

I don't hate Brock. I just hate his fans. They're the shit-talkers that piss off the hardcore MMA fans.

Why the fuck does Mir keep getting a free pass on all his ridiculous trash talk? Did you people not see or hear anything this loudmouth has been doing and saying for the better part of the last 2 years? The guy would even make Matt Hughes cringe with all the nonsense he was saying afterwards. The guy wanted to break Nog's LEG for god's sake. He went so far as to make videos mocking Lesnar for training hard. Then, after he loses, he continues talking trash, babbling some nonsense about Bruce Lee and how Brock alluding to post victory coitus with his wife is shameful because of children (who combined with a lack of knowledge about what married couples do and how the human species propagates, are up past midnight watching violent sports on PPV without parental guidance). Hey Mir, did you show your children the 2 years worth of trash talk you've been doing? Yeah, you're a great sport, really respectful of others. And hell, how did everyone forget the junk this douche was saying about Nog too?

The only opponent so far that has shown respect to Lesnar is Randy Couture. And nobody even wants to bring that fight up because, since both were respectful to each other, it doesn't fit the Brock-haters and Mir-lovers agendas.

MMA fans are the absolute worst in sports. It's basically a bunch of 14 year olds that are too loserly to follow a mainstream sport, but too young to have mindless and heated arguments over politics. As soon as these people are old enough, they will immediately move onto politics where you don't even have to worry about match results in arguments, you can spin news and theory the entire time without getting close to any real hard data.

Yea that's coaches, not fighters. Why do professional fighters need to or are expected to show sportsmanship? It's ridiculous.
