Report: Affliction To Cease Fight Promotions And Re-Join UFC As A Sponsor
Posted by  on 07.24.2009

Earlier today, Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports stated that Affliction would be merging their fight promotion with Strikeforce. Now, he has removed all mention of that possibility and posted this:
Later on Friday, Affliction opted to get out of the promoting business and, in a joint statement with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, announced it would become a sponsor of the UFC. The fate of the fighters under contract with Affliction is not known yet.

This news has not been confirmed by officials from either company, however UFC President Dana White is scheduled to be a guest on ESPN Radio 1100 Las Vegas tonight at 9 pm ET where it's believed that he will announce the end of Affliction's ban in the UFC.

Seems like Dana wins again.

Dana is really 2Face, first with Kimbo, now with Affliction.

Oh Well... Another lesson learned.

How is it two-faced? He is running a billion dollar business. It is funny all the Dana White haters out their who really have no reason to hate him.

The UFC needs good competition to keep them on their toes, so I hope there's someone out there that can put together a good promotion and do it correctly.

How is Dana a two-face? Although he's been saying for years that Kimbo sucks, he's also been saying for years that he would let Kimbo compete on the Ultimate Fighter to earn a contract. He's ON VIDEO saying that from like 2 years ago.

On Dana's latest twitter post he talks about being on ESPN Radio 1100 Las Vegas tonight, and then says welcome back TITO!

So Dana, can you pay me now?

Posted By: Josh Barnett (Guest)  on July 24, 2009 at 08:41 PM

Not like this wasn't going to happen soon anyways, but thanks to Barnett I guess for speeding things along. I still wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Fedor, but at least they should be able to get Vitor, Mousaeu, and a couple other guys out of the deal.

At least it seems like the UFC and Strikeforce don't have any animosity. Hopefully Strikeforce will continue to grow and build so there is some Domestic competition

ufc 110-brock vs fedor.

fedor needs to crush a couple of scrubs first. then have the monumental match.

what does everyone think of Brock vs fedor? i would fucking love fedor in the UFC right now

2 faced? Nah its called I own you bitches! and the person that said affliction was competition? they had Fedor and people dropped from the UFC that is not competition.

Posted By: Daniel (Guest)  on July 24, 2009 at 10:57 PM

So Fedor might be defaulted into the UFC for at least one fight? This could get fun. Although I would imagine without him signing a new multi-fight deal before he has his final fight, he wouldn't be getting Lesnar.

Posted By: Mechalon (Guest)  on July 24, 2009 at 11:57 PM

You see, Strikeforce are the closest thing to competition for the UFC, and the thing is, I remember reading comments from a UK magazine to the effects of the UFC has no problems with Strikeforce as unlike EliteXC and Affliction, its run by people who understand the fight game and are in it for the long run as opposed to jump on the popular thing at the moment, thats why Strikeforce are still going.

I hope Strikeforce continue to build on their successes up until this point.

As for Dana being two-faced, grow up, its business. Affliction were using the exposure they were getting in the UFC and then promoting directly against the UFC, why should Dana allow free advertising of the competition? Now that there is no competition, the Affliction brand is now un-banned.
