Dana White Says Major Press Conference Coming, Comments On Fedor, ESPN Deal, Affliction, More
Posted by Ashish on 07.25.2009

Dana White announced during his appearance on the ESPN 1100 Radiothon last night that UFC will be holding a press conference on July 31st to announce "a lot of crazy things." White mentioned the press conference after being asked about Affliction ceasing operations, the possibility of UFC acquiring Affliction contracts, whether Fedor Emelianenko would come to UFC, and whether the long rumored ESPN deal could happen soon.

"We're working on some big things," White said. "It's going to be a lot of crazy things. ... There will be a laundry list of things addressed."

White also confirmed that one of ESPN's top executives, John Skipper, was in attendance at UFC 100. MMAJunkie reports that discussions have taken place between UFC and ESPN about the network airing live UFC events at some point, but no deal has been finalized.

"He got it," White said of Skipper's UFC 100 trip. "He saw the people. He saw the energy. All the things you get from the UFC live event, he felt, and that's why we're starting to get more coverage on ESPN."

As for Fedor, White again said he wants Fedor in UFC.

"My job is to put on the best fights with the best fighters and give fight fans the fights they want to see," White said. "What I think ... doesn't matter. I've been trying to get this guy in the UFC. I want it because you (fans) want it."

He added that Fedor will get an immediate title shot in UFC.

"He'll fight for the title first," White said.

A couple weeks ago Fedor wasn't anywhere close to the best HW in the world according to Dana, now he'll get a title shot when he debuts..... hypocrite much?

Its amazing all the people that hated Dana for all the wrong reasons and now 1)affliction is dead 2)everyone will get to see Fedor fight but he will not get paid god salary and might get beat soon. I hope after all this Brock rides him to the mat and rides him for 8 seconds before he kills him.

so long brock`s "long" title reign as HW champ. could be wrong and he beats fedor just like he beat everyone after his 1st fight/loss in the ufc

"He'll fight for the title first," White said.

And he'll win it too.

Wow, Christmas came early for the UFC. A reconciliation with Tito, the Fall of Affliction, and a new possible deal with ESPN. Now all Dana needs is for Fedor to sign a UFC deal.

I'm kinda pissed Affliction's gone. Sure they were a fledgling promotions company that needed Fedor to headline every show but at least there was someone to compete with the UFC. Since when is a monopoly a good thing?

As for Fedor in the UFC? Well I guess anything's possible... maybe Affliction cut a deal with them for his final fight on their contract.

Illiterate much? White openly states that he wants it because the fans do... not because he thinks is right.

If you're going to complain about Dana, at least RtFA first.

I'm a Vegas local, and White finished his time on the radio by addressing a caller who was complaining that no one wanted to see Hendo/Franklin II at 103. He strongly hinted that they would be announcing a NEW main event next Friday. Let's hope so...

No, it's called giving the fans what they want to see.

i know white wants an espn deal. it would be hypocritical for them to sign a ufc deal. all the espn talking heads shows (pti, around the horn, sports reporters, etc) crap all over mma. on sportscenter, every time they cover the sport, it is always preceded or concluded by a debate on if it is a sport or not. they mispronounce names, call the wrong moves, and cringe at the sight of blood.

espn would probably try to sanitize the ufc to fit their liking.

This has to be the happiest week of Dana's life.

So who is dana gonna cut profanity filled promos on now?

I hate that this guy can talk so much trash about someone/something one day and then flip-flop on the stance because it makes him more rich. He is the biggest douche in the world but I have to respect him because he provides the best product in the USA.

Fedor will get exposed - he is not the best fighter in the world - hardly. Brock will kill him.

Brock vs. Fedor in December= MONEY!!!! And anyone that says different is lying to themselves

Brock would knock him the F#$@ out

Waiting for what? His company to be completely cut off from the mainstream and become a totally unfashionable, sanitised, unexciting pantomine that is only followed by hicks, kids and nerds? Because that is what is happening.

To Rey: Getting an ESPN deal would be huge and expand the audience. Those same 60 and 70 year old analysts have never watched UFC's current home Spike in there lives. They also tend to hold the same contempt for Soccer and any other sport that wasn't popular when they were kids back in the 40's and aren't an accurate representation of that channels audience.

I have always liked how Fedor fans sign in as quest because they are scared someone will see them or too lazy and never watch MMA.

I see Brock hitting Fedor with the F5 and then securing the win with the Brock Lock... Shit this isn't the wwe section nvm.

Brock check under your bed before you go to sleep , Fedors coming to town

Brock by shooting star press

to rey,

if espn secures a deal with the ufc. the big wigs at the network would probably send out a memo to all those old farts such as kornheiser, ryan, and blackistone, to get on board or get lost. there would be a sudden change in attitude on air over mma. bj penn and gsp would be come regulars in those corny ass, "this is sportscenter" commercials. ufc ppv results would be the lead story on their debate shows. the change be like night and day.

title shot right away is a mistake. Fedor/couture with the winner getting a title shot is the way to go.

Posted By: thejyav (Guest)  on July 26, 2009 at 11:28 PM

Fedor is and has been the best heavyweight in MMA. While he has been fighting the last 10 years Brock has been coming up with pick up lines. Its VERY tough to bet against Fedor!
