Fedor Emelianenko Signs With Strikeforce
Posted by Larry Csonka on 08.03.2009

- According to Mike Afromowitz of Strikeforce public relations, Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko has signed a historic, multi-fight agreement that will see him headline mega-events co-promoted by world championship promotions STRIKEFORCE and M-1 Global. Emelianenko will make his premium television debut this Fall when his first fight under the new agreement airs live on SHOWTIME. This was accomplished after a week of intense negotiations. Emelianenko had the following comments to share on the new deal…

"I am looking forward to going back to work and fighting at the highest level. STRIKEFORCE is a top fight promotion that houses some of the greatest fighters in the world, I am prepared to fight any of them."

- Strikeforce Founder and CEO Scott Coker had the following to say on the new deal…

"We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with M-1 Global and Fedor. Fedor has been the reigning king of MMA's heavyweight division for quite some time now so being able to work with M-1 and Fedor will substantially increase the level of competition amongst the athletes in this weight class."

- Vadim Finkelchtein, President of M-1 Global is also pleased with the deal…

"I am very happy and excited about the upcoming collaboration with Strikeforce. We are very pleased that we found a reliable partner and I feel that Strikeforce and M-1 can support each other on many things. This will create big opportunities for both parties to test their fighters against worthy opponents."

fedor fears brock

Great move, dude. Who are you going to fight, Cris Cyborg?

Posted By: Bad guy (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 12:45 PM

Well... So much for Overeem's reign as HW Champion!

Posted By: Guest#6150 (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 12:45 PM

I see Strikeforce going under in 6 months.
Carano better win if they want to prolong their death sentence.

RIP strikeforce

I hope that once the deal with M-1 is done & over with, Fedor will go back to negotiations with the UFC.

STRIKEFORCE NOW HAS THE TOP FIGHTER IN THE WORLD-THIS MUST KILL DANA.
ON TOP OF THAT-WE WILL GET TO WATCH HIM FIGHT FOR FREE.

what a joke.. strikeforce offers who in "the highest level" of competition? brett rodgers? overeem will duck fedor. werdum?

the worst part is now strikeforce will think thier roster is worthy of ppvs. another year and i would say maybe, but 10 good fighters does not make you a top promotion

Posted By: buddha (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 12:48 PM

Vadim Finkelchtein, king of all douches... GODDAMMIT!!!!

Fedor-Overeem could be sick as hell though...

Posted By: Guest#8130 (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 12:48 PM

Wow...just wow. I don't even know if I should be excited about this. Should I?
I mean, yea, Fedor is fighting in the U.S. and Strikeforce has some good heavyweight...but in no way is that the best competition. Who's gonna beat him? The best bets are Overeem and Rogers, but even that's stretching it.
And I never thought Coker would agree to co-promotions....

Posted By: Rock Robster (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 12:52 PM

the only thing i am looking forward to is seeing fedor in a cage instead of a ring.. or did strikeforce cave into that also, are they in a ring now too?

Posted By: buddha (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 12:52 PM

Fedor v. Overeem? Not bad at all.

Posted By: ryanmediocre (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 12:55 PM

byebye strikeforce, have fun paying him

Posted By: wylun (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 12:55 PM

While it isn't the UFC deal everyone was hoping for, this is the second best choice. No Lesnar/Fedor superfight, but bouts against Brett Rogers/Overeem could be fun, for starters.

I surely hope they do not put him against Werdum, though. I like Werdum and would rather -not- see him mangled...

to bad MOST of the top talent is in the UFC.

Posted By: Guest#6442 (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 12:57 PM

I hope Strikeforce doesn't fold within 2 years from this deal, but I'm not holding my breath.

Fedor fears Lesner!

Fedor fears Lesner!

FEDOR FEARS LESNER!

How is signing for Strikeforce a good thing for Fedor. I understand its good for M-1 but for Fedor's career its awful since Strikeforce (and M-1) have no legitimate heavyweights.

Posted By: Say what??? (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 01:03 PM

In other news,

Fedor has started a chicken farm with the eggs he's laid. We wish him the best in these endeavors.

And so begins the downfall of Strikeforce!

Posted By: GoodnDrunk (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 01:09 PM

Awesome! Strikeforce is a great company. Hopefully this partnership will benefit both sides. That's another big step for Coker and Strikeforce....

Posted By: MadLiberator (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 01:09 PM

Well after you're done fighting Brett Rogers and Werdum, you could come fight real competition in the UFC, or are you still ot done dodging Brock? You dumbass fat russian, hopefully Rogers knocks you out and M-1 Global and Strikeforce get no profits for all fights after that. PUSSY...LAST EMPEROR MY ASS!

strikeforce? why? say it aint so fedor, why sign with the B team????

Posted By: cenasucks (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 01:11 PM

Hahahaha!

"STRIKEFORCE is a top fight promotion that houses some of the greatest fighters in the world...."

Is that right, Fedor? I'm gonna need some proof.

"We are very pleased that we found a reliable partner...."

Does that mean the UFC isn't reliable? In some dark room, Dana is praying to his voodoo gods that this destroys Fedor and Vadim. In case you didn't know, those are the same voodoos that ended EXC and Affliction

It is official, he is scared of Brock Lesnar.

HAHA!! Fedor your such a pud...

Posted By: Out of Time (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 01:17 PM

Strikeforce has Bret Rogers and the often injured Allistair Overeem as heavyweight competition. Yawn.

Posted By: Bruno (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 01:20 PM

Well I guess we will never see Fador fight in the UFC now. Once his contract is up with M1, and strike force, I imagine he will probably retire. There’s not that many good fighters in strike force. But like I said before Fador only wants to fight people who he knows he can beat.

Posted By: guest (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 01:21 PM

He knows he will be exposed in UFC. So good deal for him. Now he can fight the tire salesman!:P

Fedor = Minor League Superstar....I think he has watched "Bull Durham" one too many times

Posted By: Marcus (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 01:24 PM

No disrespect to Overeem but I'd rather fight him than Lesnar too.

Posted By: Flying Dutchman (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 01:25 PM

So who exactly is he going to fight? I can not name one HW from strikeforce that is even in the same universe as him. How much are they paying him be whatever it is will bankrupt them and another worth wild promotion will be done and more good fighters out of a job all because the great fedor wants to co-promote instead of do what he wqas born to do and that is fight. I like fedor as a fighter but he is just throwing his legacy away by fighting these second rate over the hill fighter. If he truley wantes to be known as the greatest ever then he needs to go to the UFC and stop pissing around in the minor leages.

Posted By: WARREN05 (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 01:34 PM

This does not shock me. Better than him going to Japan, but he still won't be somewhere where he will be truly tested.

When the have only a handful of fighters in the top 15 (which I don't trust b/c if the majority can't fight against each other, then you can't truly compare) he will be fighting cans again. At least these cans will be slightly better than Silvia and Arlovski though.

But still, the guy just doesn't want to face real contenders. He would have gotten a bigger push from UFC and been able to bring that back to M-1 than just co promoting with Strikeforce will bring them. So that is a cop out excuse. I have no interest in seeing a fighter that doesn't want to fight the top contenders once he reaches this level.

To my MMA Fans I just want to say I'm very sorry I didn't sign with the UFC. But let the truth be told. I'm scared of losing to Brock Lesner. That mofo is one big fast powerful sum bitch. I don’t want my face to look like Frank Mir after he fought Brock. So my manager thought it would be best for me to sign with Strike Force. The competition there is easier. Now I will still be undefeated when I retire.

Posted By: FADOR (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 01:45 PM

Epic fail.

Strikeforce folds in about a year and a half. Everyone else that has co-promoted with M-1 has folded. Russian mafia? M-1 taking too much? Something is going on with them.

Posted By: RobertMenn (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 01:46 PM

Some good fights for him there.

Overeem, maybe Barnett later, and after this two, maybe some current UFC HW. Randy Couture anyone?

And dont disrespect Werdum,he should have gotten the title shot against Randy,if it wasnt for the celebrity Brock.

Posted By: Guest#1430 (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 01:52 PM

Dana should throw money at heavyweights. If you can't get Fedor, put a vacuum on heavyweights. Let's see anyone take Fedor seriously when he fights Bob Sapp

Fedor vs. Overeem is actually a very interesting fight. Overeem has a good size advantage and has some very good standup skills. This also gives Rodgers a good opponent aswell as Werdum. Plus this give strikeforce some extra talent as now they have access to some of Red Devil's guys. Coker has been super smart so far and I don't seem turning into a idiot now. This could be a very good thing for strikforce. They are not the size of the ufc so co promoting isn't a bad thing

in other news, Strikeforce has reached two more lucrative deals w/ both Campbells Soup & Chef Boyardee. With this partnership, providing Fedor w/ cans will be much easier.

I wouldn't be suprised if they signed Lashley too, may not be the best in the world but he has name recognition

Posted By: DC (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 02:28 PM

You all notice M-1 only wants to co-promote with ailing companies that have beef with the UFC! So when they fail M-1 amalgamates that dying comping fighters with them , those who are accepted back in the uFC !

M-1 are nothing but coat tail, back riding facre of an organization!

Of course Strikeforce has no problem siging with M-1 they were practically on there way out this time last year !
and need all the help they can get promoting fights !

Where as the UFC doesn't ! So fuck M-1 and Fuck Fedor for being a sheep !

Posted By: Guest#6778 (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 02:34 PM

you guys are a bunch of haters. this will only expand strikeforce and bring it closer to the UFC in terms of popularity. So what if there are only 2 or 3 heavyweights that have a chance at Fedor. So many more will join strikeforce just for Fedor.

Posted By: Alex Kosik (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 02:46 PM

This whole thread is full of people spelling Fedor F-a-d-o-r and Lesnar L-e-s-n-e-r. I can really tell you guys know what you are talking about and your MMA opinions are valid. You can't even spell the two most popular names. Pffft.

Strikeforce Who? They are Unknown. Fedor management is going to cost him a place in the books are the best if that what he claims to be. Just Like In Wrestling WWE is the Best. UFC Mixed Martial Arts Is the Best. You Need to Be In The Big Stage To be the Best. Fedor Internet Hype. Fight Some Real Challenges Then You Will Have a Fan in Me!!!

Posted By: Omar (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 02:48 PM

Even though I'm a huge Fedor mark I saw that he signed with Strikeforce and first thought was literally, "Well, how long until it goes under too?"

And really, this is great news for the UFC, as they're still rebuilding the heavyweight division there. Let Fedor come in with his bajillion dollar contract when there isn't only 2 sure draws for him.

But yeah, later days Strikeforce. You don't even have a heavyweight title to put on him.

Posted By: Anonguy (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 02:51 PM

i really hope he gets knocked out by brett "the hitman" rogers and loses all credability. He has had one real test since 2005 (arvloski)...and then he goes to strike force where the only fight that will be interesting is overeem..thats it.

Posted By: bullfrog24 (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 03:04 PM

So when Fedor loses a fight what is his worth to strikeforce then?? Even if he beats Alistar who is he gonna fight? Brett Rogers? Really, Brett Rogers??

They paid for the Myth that is Fedor and signed away their life to M-1 in the process. Good Job! Not like people were clamoring for Fedor to fight ANYONE ins strikforce. At least in the UFC a loss to someone there are still matchups people want. Brock v Fedor, Randy v Fedor, Mir v Fedor...Strikeforce has NOTHING like that to offer.

Give them 2 years and they will be finished.

Fedor will finish his career without fighting 3/4 of the top heavyweights of his era and will end up being a footnote in MMA history...take that to the bank!

Posted By: goodbye (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 03:26 PM

Strikeforce is a good company they have made smart decisions so far I would have rather seen him in the UFC but you guys forget there is alot more fighters out there that arent in the UFC wich features mostly american and brazilian fighters what about the rest of the world ??? trust me there are more great fighters then whats in UFC

Posted By: Hawk (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 03:27 PM

Strikeforce will go out of business from this. Mark my words. They are paying Fedor's asking price (which is huge), agreeing to co-promote with a fed that does nothing and will not help them profit, and they are airing his fight for free. They are losing their ass on this deal.

Posted By: Bye Bye Strikeforce (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 03:29 PM

Clearly Fedor could careless about fighting top tier competition. Person ally I feel he's is affraid of getting his ass whipped in the UFC! Honestly this signing is a joke. Strikeforce is the TNA of MMA. They get washed out UFC rejects and are banking on thier "Knockouts Division" ERR Woman's divison to carry them! Come on Man! Here's to Stirkeforce folding in 1.5 yrs due to their deal with the Russian Devil, here's to Fedor's bitch ass having to fight his way into the house ala Kimbo Slice. Fuck the hype machine that is Fedor The Emperor of Puppets, Pussies, and Paper Champions!

Posted By: guest (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 03:37 PM

Strikeforce has a heavyweight division???

Posted By: Guest#7875 (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 04:04 PM

Please, enlighten me, UFC fans. What heavyweights does the UFC have? Brock Lesnar, who is still new to the game. Frank Mir just got his ass handed to him by Brock, so he's a non-starter. Randy Couture is pushing 50. Gonzaga is spotty at best. Nog's knees are shot. You have two up-and-comers in Carwin and Velasquez, who are facing each other basically to decide Brock's next challenger. THAT'S IT. So tell me how "UFC is clearly the biggest place for heavyweight fighters".

Posted By: Blottie (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 04:05 PM

And he will fight who exactly? Overeem? Rogers? Werdum? yippie skippy. At least if he fought Lashley I guess it would sell tickets. I like Fedor based on his interviews and humility, but this move is going to ruin his credibility with fans from capitalist nations. He places loyalty to M-1 above his legacy, and US fans will never understand that. His lack of greed for a legacy will ultimately cost him his legacy and a douche like Lesnar will be remebered as being the better heavyweight.

Haha 2 fuckin funny! Actually, I dont think it's that bad that he signed with Strikeforce. I'm disappointed that we won't see him in UFC, but does it really matter? Let the man do what he wants. No one on here calling the man a pussy would do it to his face so that shit doesn't mattter. Maybe he doesn't care about his own legacy as much as some "fans" do. And hoenstly, it's not as if Dana and the UFC won't do numbers without him. Fedor is not as popular as the 'net or "underground" MMA fans make him out to be. Sure Dana would love to have a monopoly on MMA, but I think a smaller B-level company is a good thing to have around. I'm not a hater so good luck to Fedor and Strikeforce in the future. BTW, I'd like to see Strikeforce sign Lashley and King Mo. I'm not saying those guys are tops in their division but I'd like to see both compete on a major (minor?) scale if they're not gonna be in the UFC anytime soon.

For me the sad thing about this is the fact that we have been denied a match (Brock vs Fedor)that would've taken MMA to the next level, especially now that we've learned that UFC 100 did 1.7 million buys and since both Brock and Fedor are still white hot. I bet with UFC's marketing Brock vs Fedor would've done over 2 mil buys. And Fedor would've even got a cut of the ppv revenue and he still rejected. Unbelievable!

Strikeforce will overpay Fedor and everyone else and fold just like Affliction and EliteXC - everyone is overvaluing fighters right now and UFC is keeping their eye on the prize of longevity whereas everyone else is trying to cash in on the MMA fad.

Imagine if he gets knocked out by Rogers. I would love to see Dana's face when that happens, him and Lesner would spit there Coors Light out in laughter and Fedor will be done. He is making a mistake and this is all from that douche Vadim, I really dislike that guy. Fedor should realise that guy is a dick

I supported Fedor for a long time as the greatest Heavyweight in the world and when he had a chance to prove he is still the best he PUSSIED out! Fedor must know that there are way better calibur fighters in the UFC for him to beat and that he can't hang with the bib boys anymore! Fedor = Pussy

Posted By: yankeeman (Guest)  on August 03, 2009 at 06:28 PM

Everyone posting about how Fedor is a pussy who is dodging Brock must know nothing about MMA and believe that somehow, Fedor is reading this and your stupid criticism hurts him. When you go 30-0 (which is what his record should be), defeat seven former UFC champs, most in under 2 minutes, and stop thinking Brock's size alone makes him a beast, then you can critique Fedor. He's not dodging competition. Yes, M-1 is playing a huge part in stopping him from coming to the UFC, but it would be nice if people would appreciate Eastern European and Russian culture and understand better why someone like Dana can't negotiate with these people. The UFC's heavyweight division is pretty weak, hell, Brock Lesnar hasn't proved anything compared to Fedor, and everyone who criticizes Fedor must have just started watching MMA or is delusional.

Obviously Fedor vs Rodgers or Overeem or LASHELY.

That's what they're hoping for!

Fedor had set demands and got them. That's called being principled. He has always stated he could give a fuck about legacy or challenging himself. He has always said it's just a job to him.

Most of the commentators here are just butt hurt because he didn't do what they want. Get over it. He does what he likes, which is what makes M-1 (a company he partially owns) happy. Get over it. He can still beat most, if not any, UFC heavyweight. But the UFC won't submit to his demands. Nor should they.

Fedor is scared of Brock Lesnar.

Brock would kill fedor. He'd take him down, give him elbows and ruin his face. He made Franks face look like a fucked up clown.

Its only a 3 fight deal and if he cleans out Strikeforce, UFC will have to double its current offer. Its smart for Fedor. Only three fights and in all honesty 3 fights from Strikeforce could end up being easily as good as three for UFC... UFC has Lesner/Fedor which could be a fight, but throw Mir, Couture, Carwin et al in there and Fedor will eat their lunch. Strikforce gives him at least 2 top quality fights in Brett Rogers and Overeem, and then a third against a possible Brock clone in Lashley. That would put him as a free agent again, and assuming Brock only gets better the demand for that fight will be insane.

Actually a very good move business wise for Fedor. It will be interesting to see if Overeem milks this injury to try and duck a bad loss to Fedor.

god some of you posting here are idiots,

fedor has 3 fights left on his m-1 global contract (which includes a co-promotion clause obviously)
once this is up he can THEN finally go to the UFC

In the meantime those 3 fights will have to consist of strikeforce heavyweights (bret rogers/alastair overeem both ranked heavyweights btw) and possibly josh barnett at the DREAM new years show if rumors are true

those are 3 quality fights right there if he can win all three of those he would have no choice but the UFC after that

Hey guy it came to tuff decision I must choos between promotion's heavywait champions Overeem is more polished I can beat him Lesnar is freak of space I cant beat him I scared of UFC I go to Strikeforce maybe in a year when I soak them dry I go to ufc but no fight between me or lesnar.

Wow, way to sign for less money with no competition Fedouche. I am not interested in any Strikeforce fight for your dumb ass. Their Heavyweight champ is Overeem for fucks sake. Lidell beat his ass. Enjoy your worthless title if Overeem ever decides to fight. Congratulations for getting paid shit to fight Heavyweights who would get wrecked by any upper level UFC Light Heavyweight.

lol he only signed with strikeforce coz he is scared of facing lesnar

No one will remember the nuances of why Fedor couldn't come to terms with the UFC; only that he didn't agree to fight Lesnar.

Posted By: Pedro Domeq (Guest)  on August 06, 2009 at 08:50 PM

i dont know why people keep saying that fedor is dodging brock lesnar. i get the feeling that lesnar is probably happy fedor didn't join. you know lesnar doesnt want to get embarrassed like that. i highly doubt fedor and his management would have even negotiated again with the ufc if fedor was actually scared of lesnar. how would lesnar beat fedor? all brock has is ground game, and fedor is the master of the ground game. and on top of that fedor is very well known for his submissions, which lesnar obviously sucks at.
