Forrest Griffin Discusses UFC 101 Loss To Anderson Silva
Posted by  on 10.02.2009

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin has remained silent since his devastating loss to current middleweight champ Anderson Silva at UFC 101. He recently spoke to Ariel Helwani at MMA Fanhouse about several topics, including the fight and his actions immediately after:

Let's look back at your last fight against Silva at UFC 101. Ultimately, what do you think went wrong out there?

I don't know. I'm going to guess everything. You know where I made my biggest mistake was saying I would fight that guy. That's definitely the first mistake I made and the biggest.

Was he better than you thought he would be?

I'm not really sure, man. I'm not really sure I showed up to fight him. Maybe I thought he was so good that I didn't have to fight him.

Did it bother you to hear people criticize your post-fight reaction?

Nah, that's the first time I've ever heard it. This is going to blow you away, but I haven't watched the fight or talked about it.

This guy actually asked me a good question the other day, and this is a real story and I really like it: first off, he was very confrontational; I didn't like him much to begin with, and he goes, 'Hey, man, I have to know,' because it's his business to know, 'why did you run out of the cage that night after the Silva fight?' And I said, 'Look, man, I haven't told anybody, let's keep this on the down low, but the truth is your mom was waiting for me in the back to suck my d***, and you know how good of a b*** j** your mom gives, so I didn't want to be late for that sh**.' And that's pretty much the answer I give. I like that answer, so I'll give that answer to everyone.

Forrest seems to have turned into a very bitter man since finally starting to talk to people again.

Ha! My mom is in a coma! How do you like that Griffin!

Guess trying to be a funny man is all he has left. He is after all a walking joke.

Jesus, this loss looks like it may mental scar him for the rest of his career. He obviously hasn't even come close to mentally recovering.

this guy is a tool.

Wow, this guy is going to go from hero to heel in one big Brazilian bitch slap.

Your a tool Forrest, go away please.

i like how so many people hate on forrest for losing, and running out of the octagon. imagine if he had won, those very same people would be hugging his nuts and hating on silva

Posted By: Justin. (Guest)  on October 02, 2009 at 08:47 PM

Justin,

I think the reason why the same people hate Forrest is because of how he acted in defeat, not that he was defeated.

Forrest represented the everyman, and getting beat happens- what Forrest could have done to save face was to get up, dust him self off, and recognize the man who kicked his ass, shake his hand and walk the fuck out with his head held high.

Instead he acted like a baby, and ran. He took his ball and ran home...

He never talked about the fight, and he is telling people, probably his fans that ask him "did you run out?" with "To get my dick sucked by your mom."

Imagine if Rocky ended that way...

Forrest is shitting on his fans, not the haters, but his fans with these kinds of comments.

heal heat

How the hell is this "heel" heat? People just think he's a crybaby and sore loser, that's not being hated, it's sad.

Forrest has said he does not want to be a role model for anyone...not sure why people were trying to put him on a pedestal as the poster guy for the working man.

Posted By: Guest#1584 (Guest)  on October 02, 2009 at 10:58 PM

During the fight with Silva I was cheering for him. Had I known he'd act like such a tool, I would not have. Now I'm glad Anderson beat his ass.

Whatever happened to the 'I love you guys so much, thank you!' Forrest? Did his ego balloon after he won the title? Are his brains scrambled after Evans and Anderson played target practice with his head?

"And in the blue corner...Forrest "The Running Man" Griiiifffinnnn"!

Posted By: Guest#4637 (Guest)  on October 02, 2009 at 11:47 PM

who cares if he doesnt want to be a role model, he needs to recognize if hey, i'm a star, people look up to me, and expect a certain amount of PROFESSONIALISM from me, and I am representing myself, my fans and my promotion , I should act acordingly and not act like a bitch and 15 year old teenager who just got beat up by a ten year old, fag needs to get real, and be a man

Posted By: Cody (Guest)  on October 02, 2009 at 11:55 PM

waa waa waa, nothing but a bunch of little bitches post on here!

Forrest is the man!

Posted By: Guest#8552 (Guest)  on October 03, 2009 at 02:47 AM

I'm sure Forrest was happy to get all of the money and recognition as the UFC poster boy. It's a bit late now to start saying that he doesn't want to be a role model just because he has been shown up as one dimensional fighter.

Posted By: nax (Guest)  on October 03, 2009 at 04:36 AM

Apparently acting poorly after a loss, which a good majority of everyone does, seems to make you the most hated man in the world.

"He never talked about the fight, and he is telling people, probably his fans that ask him "did you run out?" with "To get my dick sucked by your mom."

That would have been hilarious...

to me the yo mamma shit just shows a level of immaturity that I thought I would never hear from Forrest.

Is he my role model?...No
Do I like or hate him?....No
Did I care that he ran off?...Not really because noone knows how theyd react in that situation...it was very embarrassing.

But come on show some class and have some dialogue on what went wrong and how your going to improve. Your fans deserve that at the very least.

The IDIOT was talking for weeks before the fight about how he was scared and thought he would loose.

I dont get it, was he trying to be funny or something? Well either way he went in and did what he said he would.

BITCH!

Posted By: AG Awesome (Guest)  on October 03, 2009 at 08:00 AM

So sick of Griffin! He tries too hard to be funny but he's not, really he's just an over-rated douche who can't handle losing. looking forward to seeing him get KTFO again when ever he gets over his period and gets his ass back in the cage.

Posted By: Guest#0243 (Guest)  on October 03, 2009 at 08:49 AM

I would tell Forrest that I know my mom gives a goood b*** j**,but she would have not given him one because she dosen't like pu**y.

Posted By: Billy (Guest)  on October 03, 2009 at 12:43 PM

forrest sounds like a sore loser. lets look at it from his pov. he fought a man who toyed with him. he was knocked down TWICE and silva allowed him to get back up. the third time was a glancing blow that knocked him out. it was kobe playing a pick up game against a high school senior.

Posted By: rey (Guest)  on October 03, 2009 at 12:56 PM

The only reason people pay to watch this guy fight is because they like his personality and fighting ability. Well, fighting ability wise, he got exposed, and now he seems intent on projecting a shitty personality too.

That comment was a total jackass move. Yes Forrest, your fans want to know why you ran out. Dumbass, either come up with a good reason or just shake your head and say you really don't know why you did it. Why do you think you get paid to fight exactly?

You don't have a "right" to be highly paid either, you need to understand that you are in the entertainment business, your fans are what get you paid. So yeah, in terms of a "right" no, nobody has that "right" to know. But common courtesy says you don't act like a hurt little girl because somebody asks a legitimate question.

No Forrest, your biggest mistake was not taking that fight. It had nothing to do with losing either. It's how you carried yourself afterwards and continue to carry yourself. You should issue an apology to that fan, and to fans in general for that garbage.

Losing only kills your career if you're an asshole or have a boring fight style. If you take care of your fans, they won't let Dana or anybody else push you out, because you're just to valuable, and you don't face much criticism for losing. For instance, look at Wanderlei Silva. He's lost what, 5 of his last 6? And the guy can still headline PPVs. He fights hard and he treats the fans great. Nobody loses respect for him or anything, the guy gets respect even if people don't like him. Can anyone imagine Wand telling some guy that his mother is sucking him off in the back? I mean get real, grow up Forrest.

It's funny how the same sense of humor that made so many people love this guy in the first place is making them hate him now.

I used to love how Forrest joked about not being very good or being technically outclassed by his opponent. But then he actually lost a few fights and showed he just can't handle the fact that he can actually lose to someone, that his opponent actually was the better man that night. It made a lot of people feel like his self deprecating pre-fight jokes were just bullshit to get people to like him.

I wanna like Forrest again. It took him a while to earn back my respect after the way he acted when Jardine beat him. But after the way he reacted to losing to Anderson, and the way he simply won't accept the fact that he was outfought, I don't think I can bring myself to cheer for him anymore.

Forrest is not a bitter guy. He's always been very self-deprecating.

I honestly don't think Forrest "running out of the cage" was a temper tantrum or anything. He was probably just very pissed off that he lost and that has nothing to do with a referee or Anderson Silva. He was pissed at himself.

Calling Forrest is a joke is ridiculous. You guys have totally turned on him for no reason.

who cares if he was pissed at himself, the fact is he should actual professionally and carry himself like a man and not a bitch, by running out like that, he proved how childish he is , and the comments he made in that interview above just prove the guy can;t handle critisim.

No need to pay friend. Just head down to the local elementary school and you might hear something similar from the 12 year old boys.

Um, that is classic heel.Edge, Jericho, Orton are the top heels in the E this year and dating back to Flair and Gorgeus George all play that card when they lose there belts/matches.

I've lost all respect for this guy. The bottom line is that he knows that he fought like a little bitch and quit that fight. After the 3rd knockdown (to a jab!) he raised his hands in surrender and can't face the music now. If he had fought with an ounce of the spirit he showed vs Shogun and still lost, I would actually respect the guy. But to lose like that, then act like an asshole in interviews to try to save face, fuck him.

If it was anyone else, they would be fighting in Strikeforce right now. But because Dana will never drop Griffin or Bonnar because of TUF 1 Finale, Forrest knows he's safe.

What a loser.

Yeah, there's good heal heat, then there's the old Xpac heat. Where you just hate the guy and don't want to see him again.

Roy Nelson was a moron for his post Kimbo celebration, but now I want to see someone KHTFO. That's good heal heat.
