Shane Carwin Speaks On Brock Lesnar’s Illness
Posted by Larry Csonka on 11.17.2009
Wishes the UFC champion well…
Shane Carwin made the following post on The Underground, discussing Brock Lesnar's health situation…
I am sure most of you know I am not the leader of the Lesnar Fan Club. That being said, antics or not, he is OUR UFC HWT Champion. He beat a future Hall of Famer to keep that belt and he NEEDS our prayers and good thoughts right now.
At the end of the day I can take off my UFC shirt and say here is a man, a Champion that has been brought down by an illness not another man. It is very humbling if you think about it.
Brock has a wife, kid, and friends that depend on him to make their lives better. You do not have to support Brock and his antics but you should have respect for the human side of what is happening here.
This is not a ploy to sell more tickets, he is the biggest draw this sport has ever had. This is not him ducking me or any other fighter. This is about a man who is fighting an illness for his career, family and friends.
Talk of stripping a man of his title due to illness will set this sport back farther then anything Brock has ever said. We need our Champions healthy and defending. I know the show will go on but to be a Champion you must beat a Champion.
My family and I send our thoughts and well wishes to Brock's family, friends and training partners. We are indeed keeping you in our thoughts.
If you sit around bashing Brock or making fun of this because of his antics you might be the very same thing you despise. As an MMA fan, as a human be concerned that one of OUR OWN has fallen and needs our support.
HOWEVER, Brock needs to be stripped of the title because he will not be able to defend that title for a long while (If EVER again!). The HW division needs restructuring now and if Brock isn't around, then let the HW's who ARE around fight for the belt!
IF/When Brock can make a full recovery and can fight again, then he can get an automatic Title match.

Dear Carwin,
Please, for the love of hell, SHUT UP. You don't have to comment on EVERYTHING that involves Brock Lesnar.

For the love Carwin just say this is really unfortunate and I hope he makes a quick recover. Cut out all the back handed I still hate the guy and he is bad for our sport BUT....crap

No need to strip the title at this point. Give it a few weeks, and see how Lesnar responds to whatever treatment they come up with.

Carwin needs to get over this mammoth Lesnar hard-on he has. Just go about your business. If you make a comment, make it quickly. No need for the constant snide remarks about a man who is battling an illness now.

This is just sour grapes on Carwin's part, because now he won't get a huge payday courtesy of Brock. He will have to wait awhile for a title match, or at the best, be an interim champion to a superior fighter.

This is just a bully (and a pussy one at that) upset because he didn't get to go toe to toe with the bigger, badder, better bully.

Brock Lesnar is everything Shane Carwin wishes he was.

Very classy move by Carwin. Very rare to see this from him, given how he responded to Brock's actions after UFC 100. I have a whole new respect for the man.

If they MUST do an interm champion, the match should be Carwin/Big Nog, winner of Mir/Kongo gets title shot, Cain gets fed someone (Gonzaga?), and then the TUF heavyweights come in...Brock going down is a HUGE loss, but the HW division isn't hurting...

Brock didn't set the sport back you pathetic mark, have a nice trip back into obscurity. Once the Lesnar news dries up so does this worthless cunt. Carwin doesn't understand all this dickriding is embarrassing antics that keep MMA in the retard section of society.

i agree and disagree. what shane is saying is very true. not everybody can find the line between yer job and everyday life. he has made it clear that he can and he shouldnt be bashed for saying it, its a very big deal with whats going on in regards to brock and shane understands that. stripping brock of the title would be dumb becuz the hwt division is doing very well with upcomers like the dos santos and kimbo(say what you will but he is ever improving) i say put the match on the back burnner for now and get some of the other heavyweights established. the common fans of the ufc don't no what it means to be a fan they jump ship so fast when the man they boo knocks sombody out there all over him like he's an mma god, it makes no sence.

Stripping the title is just stupid. Do an interim championship, start with a mini-tourney between Carwin, Cain, Nog and Mir (Nog-Mir 2 will do big business) and the winner gets the interim belt. Have Carwin-Cain and Nog-Mir 2 on the same night such to maximize the hype with Nog-Mir 2 being the main event. Then six months later have the interim title fight. That gives Brock at least a year and a half to recover fully. If he cannot recover fully then you have the Interim champ defend once and if he wins he becomes the UFC HW Champ. I think this would be fair to everyone involved.
BTW, wouldn't it be interesting if Fedor shows up in the UFC just after Brock announces his retirement due to health issues??????????

Pretty sensible stuff from Carwin, and really nobody can argue with it. It's not about MMA or fighting or trashtalk anymore when it gets to the stage that someone's seriously ill, it's not about titles either, it's about a man and his family and having some respect for another human being.
People trying to impose anymore than that on Carwin's comments have VERY active (read: retarded) imaginations. Shut up and let Carwin show respect. 411mania staff put this comment up here, Carwin didn't. It's just like any other fighter wishing Brock luck right now, it's just that SOMEONE ELSE decided to post it.
Now get a life and get off Carwin's back (and while you're at it, Brock's sword).
