Marcus Jones Retires From MMA

"Big Baby" hangs up his gloves.....
Ultimate Fighter 10 contestant Marcus "Big Baby" Jones (4-2) has reportedly decided to retire from active MMA competition. The former first-round NFL draft pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quickly became a fan favorite on last season's "Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights" after he became the only member of "Team Rampage" to win a fight and advance to the quarter-finals of the show. After he was knocked out of the competition in the semi-finals of the show by Brendan Schaub, Jones had hinted at retiring. However, the UFC convinced him to fight fellow Ultimate Fighter 10 contestant, Matt Mitrione, at the "Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale" earlier this month. Mitrione ended up picking up the victory after an impressive second-round KO.
Although he is retiring from active competition, Jones does have a degree in communications from North Carolina and could go into broadcasting.
His stand up, however, just wasn't developed enough and he's no spring chicken. Maybe had he started earlier...

Good luck to Marcus. I hope he does well at whatever he does. I hope he continues training BJJ and everything and I feel he's be great as a permanent fixture on something like MMA live as he has that likeable personality.

Maybe during his downtime from planting flowers he can go find a chin.

Only one person in history has played an NFL game and fought in the UFC, that man is Marcus Jones
bummer his UFC career did not last long, but its not too surprising - very few people can start at an advanced age and pull it off, getting as far as he did is pretty impressive.
Even Randy Couture started MMA at a younger age than Jones.

He can't improve much further at his age, but to his credit he's respectable on the ground, and he offered good insights and enthusiasm when he appeared on MMA Live.

Didn't Brendan Schaub (the guy who lost in the finale to Roy Nelson) play in the NFL?

Actually, untrue. If you're going to count Big Baby's fight against Mitrione as having fought in the UFC, then you forgot Matt Mitrione played in the NFL as well. So as you praise Big Baby, I guess that means that you LOVE Mitrione, the only person to play an NFL game and win a UFC fight.

Matt Mitrione has played in the NFL and fought in the UFC to so I guess BIG LOSER isn't the only on to do so. And his record is 4-2 what the hell man suck it up and stop being a BIG BABY hahaha see what I did there I know I'm great

Schaub was in training camp for the Bills - but never appeared in a game. Brock Lesnar was also in training camp.
It turns out that Matt Mitrione did play in the NFL - so Jones is actually one of two.

Sucks because he had potential, but he's not a real fighter. He quit because he can't take getting knocked out(or probably punched hard). If you can't take a punch and deal with it than you're not a fighter. Good luck to him in the future, maybe he'll find what he's meant to do.

Dr. Hibbert: "But, you can always fall back on your degree in... Communications! Oh, dear Lord!"
Lubchenko: "I know! Is phony major. Lubchenko learn nothing. Nothing!"
