Lauzon Brothers Will Not Fight Each Other
Posted by Chris Lansdell on 02.09.2010

The potential bout between Joe and Dan Lauzon is all but done for, with Joe saying today that the two brothers would not even fight on the same card any more. Many training partners within UFC were concerned about the fight, thinking it would take away the credibility of the "I don't want to fight my friend" argument.

"I think we squashed the whole fighting thing," Joe said. "We both had such a tough time fighting at the same time. If it came way down the line and they were going to pay us some obscene amount of money, then I think we would think about it. We were like, 'I'd definitely fight him,' but I think after seeing how tough it was just to see the other person fight on the same night, I think we're kind of squashing that."

Joe also cited the inability to corner each other and the "emotion dump" that occurred when he saw his brother lose as reasons to avoid fighting on the same night again. The question of who would have the privelege of fighting in front of the hometown crowd in Boston in Agusut was raised, and Joe said it was down to hi. "[Dan] basically said it's my fight. I think we were both thinking about it and talking about it in the beginning. We both want to fight on the Boston card, but we're saying we're not going to fight at the same time. He told me, 'You fight in Boston in August. You deserve it more. If they come back around to Boston, I'll do it next time, but this one's you.' I thought it was real big of him."

I used to fight my brothers all the time for free. Putting money up we can do it again. No problem

Imagine how bad it would suck to beat your brother in a fight, and then see him released the next week from his contract. No win bonus, no more title talks, no contract, the dream (at least temporarily) over. That's why these guys won't fight each other. They certainly don't mind hitting each other, as all brothers beat each other up at some point, but it's what's on the line.
