Dana White Announces Winner of Junior Dos Santos and Roy Nelson Will Get a Title Shot
Posted by Chris Lansdell on 07.29.2010

On tonight's episode of MMA Live, which already aired in the UK, Dana White officially announced that the winner of the Roy Nelson vs. Junior Dos Santos bout in August will get the next heavyweight title shot, against the winner of the Brock Lesnar-Cain Velasquez fight. This had been rumored before, but this announcement confirmed the rumors.

I really like both guys, but I'm really, really hoping that Roy "Buddha Belly" Nelson pulls off the upset here.

Dana hates Roy with a Passion. It would be so funny to Roy Nelson beat JDS and then Lesnar to win the title.

Still pretty silly. JDS should be getting the shot instead of Cain. I like Nelson but he hasn't faced anyone in the UFC that should put him in title contention. JDS has faced some top notch fighters while Nelson has beaten a TUFF loser and an average skyscraper.

WTF? UFC Heavyweight division is a joke.

Roy has some serious power.. But JDS is my guy, just think he'll have the speed advantage and will get off first..

Did you mean "well rounded" skills are a body type that is...well...rounded? Just kidding...GO NELSON!

Yeah, it's soooooo much better in Strikeforce where you have to lose a fight to get a title shot.

Heeres how it works
nelson has an advatanage on the ground to brock and junior would have the upper hand standup

against cain nelson loses junior wins

cain will not win unless he can take lesnar into the forth round by the lesnar is out of gas suspect for the knockout

JDS is the NEXT BIG THING.

I personally don't think that Roy is ready for a title shot. But, if he gets past JDS, why not?

I think the loser gets Shane Carwin.

Roy Nelson wins via Knockout/TKO/Unconscious Motha Fucker in the ring ala the Earthquake Splash (WWF)/the Avalanche Splash (WCW)

End Scene...

JDS deserves it.
Nelson, well, not so much.

I agree though, that Nelson is "well-rounded". Maybe a little too "well-rounded".

Either way, I don't think Nelson would have much more than a puncher's chance against either Lesnar or Cain. JDS, on the other hand, may fare slightly better, but I still don't see JDS beating Lesnar or Cain.

In what moronic world does Roy Nelson have an advantage on the ground to Brock Lesnar? You've got a guy with a gut but some decent skills, but 1) there is no chance in hell he takes Brock down, and 2) there is no chance in hell that he gets a mount.

Also, Brock is suspect to a knockout in the fourth round? How do you figure that? He got rocked by Carwin, heaviest hitter in MMA and survived. He went 15 minutes with Heath Herring and never once looked gassed. His cardio and his chin are not suspect. Valasquez's shot at beating him is by earning a decision. He does that using leg kicks (a strength of his), and we know Brock isn't incredibly comfortable on his feet.

I'd like to see JDS win and get a title shot, just because he has earned far more than Nelson in the UFC. I like Big Country, but after losing to JDS, I would love to see him match-up with a r eturning Carwin as a sub main-event.

Who is undefeated? Roy Nelson has 4 MMA losses and is 2-2 in his last 4 fights. So what as that again?
