Vitor Belfort vs. Yushin Okami To Headline UFC 122
Posted by Dustin James on 08.28.2010

UFC middleweight Vitor Belfort (19-8) had planned on facing the winner of the Anderson Silva/Chael Sonnen fight that went down at UFC 117 earlier this month. However, after a classic battle which saw Silva beat Sonnen with just minutes left in the fight, it was revealed earlier this week that the two would rematch sometime next year. This news had left Belfort without an opponent for his next UFC fight, but it looks like the company may have finally settled on a fight for "The Phenom". According to F4Wonline.com, Belfort will face Yushin Okami (25-5) in the main event of UFC 122 on November 13 in Oberhausen, Germany. It is expected that the winner of that fight will face the winner of the Silva/Sonnen II fight at some point next year.

UFC 122 is also currently rumored to be a Spike TV show.

Okami is one of the most boring fighters in the UFC. I hope he gets KTFO.... he is really good but just so darn boring. He belogs as a gate keeper on the prelims.

The UFC had better make this a free show on Spike. Yushin Okami? For Real? Never expected him to be a headliner. I would not pay to see this.

This is perfect booking once again from the UFC. Kudos gentlemen, kudos. If only Strikeforce could come close this logical of booking...

This is bullshit. No offense to Okami, but Belfort already earned his title shot. It's messed up that we won't get to see Silva/Belfort next.

Talk about about being lead to the slaughter.....RIP Okami :(

Yup-NOPE!
Hey douche, just how did Vitor "earn" his title shot??
By beating Franklin in a catchweight fight at 185??No,he hasn't earned any kind of title shot yet.
It is not messed up at all.Silva v Sonnen 2 is THE fight.Your brain is what is messed up.
Douche. :)

"No offense to Okami, but Belfort already earned his title shot."

By not fighting at 185.

Sorry. You're wrong.

"The UFC had better make this a free show on Spike."

You had better read.

Great, so now Okami wins (Not that I want it to happen, but shit like this always does) and Chael wins a rematch and then we get Okami vs Chael? PUUUUUUUUUUUKE!!!!

ok i get it smart move by dana if he had 2 #1 contender vito has going to fight silva because thats the fight he thought people would want to see and okami had sonnen if he won because dana made the statement okami was ready after his last win but because the silva/sonnen fight went the way it did then an automatic rematch works wonderfully but now they got 2 #1 contender for the same belt so now you have them fight to see who gets the next shot and you are left with 3 good main events it's genius

No he haven't. He never fought at 185 in the UFC so how did he earn a title shot? He only got a shot because of who he is.

Okami will beat the overrated Silva...again.

Absolute Bullshit. First off. SILVA BEAT SONNEN. He tapped. Dosen't matter how the fight went, plus he was hurt b4 the fight, and still won. Edgar Penn 2, I agree, Machida Shogun 2, I agree. Very close fights, decisions 1st time round. If Sonnen gets Silva again, why does Cain get Brock. Y Not Lesnar vs Carwin 2. Carwin actually did better than Chael, he hurt the champion he was fighting. Chael didnt. Yeah he took Anderson down. But then what?? Nookie punches, and pancake forearms. Not bashing any fighter, i totaly respect what Chael did, but damn. The only differences in those 2 fights are...One ended in 2 and the other ended in 5, Silva never got hurt, like almost finished, and still beat Chael from the bottom. While Chael was punching and winning. Carwin almost ko'd Brock, but he did gas out, i guess overexcitement. But still better than Chael. So much talk over ooohh lets get Vitor and Silva. Thats one of the main reasons he was RE-signed with the UFC. Then ED Soares whines, who is this guy, who is this guy. So instead, we get Belfort vs Franklin. Vitor did his thing, boom...ko. Maybe its because Vitor hasn't been in the Mainstream eye since the Ultimate Fighter populated the tv. Maybe not. But a real fan. a MMA Intelligent fan, would research people b4 bashing em. Then they would know Vitor is the real deal. Just remember what was said when Anderson came in. Gettin Thru the ranks so fast. Same shit. People cryin cause they didnt know the fighter. New what. Went from whos this guy. to Pound for Pound best in the world. Vitor vs Silva would be so so much better. His hand speed is among the fastest in the world, and he is accurate. Silva loves to strike. Sounds like a recipe for FIREWORKS. It should be...Silva vs Belfort...Okami vs sonnen for #1 contender. And yes I know about Vitors surgery. But he is healed now, and been waitin. I get the rematch, but dont agree with it, If its not fair to all fighters when they have a title shot, it shouldnt happen in this case either. I applaud Chael. But Im Pro Belfort...and Pro Silva.. Kaos

i was like wtf until i realized the spike tv thing since no way this would be something to pay for and am sorry sonnen earned a rematch and vitor has been out for too long to get a title shot on his return

I know, complaining about a free show. But fuck it, this card is a lump of dog shit, this main event sucks and Dana should be ashamed. And UFC 118 sucked too.

Posted By: Jared B. (Guest)  on August 29, 2010 at 01:25 AM

It's a free card people, quit yer bitchin. Vitor has had NO fights in the middle weight division of the UFC. His fight against Franklin was at a catch weight of 195. So how has he earned his title shot? More people want to see Chael fight Silva again so that is what will happen. At least if Silva beats Chael again, they can still throw Okami or Belfort at Silva. But think of it, if Chael wins than you have so many MORE match ups possible now that there's a new champ. The bottom line is and always will be how to make the most money.
