Nevada State Athletic Commission Suspends Nick Diaz

A formal disciplinary hearing to come…
- The Nevada State Athletic Commission voted today to formalize a temporary suspension issued to Nick Diaz following his positive drug test for marijuana. A formal disciplinary hearing is now expected at a date to be determined.
NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer initially filed a complaint with the Nevada Attorney General's Office asking to temporarily suspend Diaz's fight license pending a formal hearing, and that was granted today. Also, NSAC commissioners requested that Diaz's full license application and purse information be made available during the formal hearing.
Diaz broke Rule 467.850 of the commission's administrative code, this rule bars the use of banned substances, including performance-enhancing drugs and drugs of abuse such as marijuana. He also failed a post-fight drug test following PRIDE 33 in 2007 due to marijuana, and the NSAC fined him 20 percent of his purse and suspended him six months.
Kizer stated that the commission could levy fines or suspend him, as well as revoke or place conditions on the license. He also stated the following…
"In the past, the norm for a positive test for marijuana is six months, but we have had two repeat offenders, and they both got a 12-month suspension. But that doesn't necessarily mean that's what will happen here."
.....funny, Diaz complains about the money in MMA if he would win without failing drug tests he would have a little more $$ to take home. Just saying?

So Kizer is taking home 20% of Nicks salary and possibly more. Must be nice to just take money from people like that. I doubt Nick ever cares to fight in Nevada again.

makes me wonder if he just wanted a vacation from mma.
Whatever, as it doesn't change the fact that he lost the Condit fight.

The metabolytes they found in his blood could have been there for up to 3 weeks - and when Nick found out he failed the test, he was actually surprised about it. That tells me he probably smoked up closer to 3 weeks before the fight, he wouldn't have been dumb enough to smoke right before the fight or anything. The guy does have a California license to smoke... Nevada or not, I hope they go easy on him.

His license in California doesn't mean anything. That license is only good in California not Nevada. Regardless if you know its against the rules....why even take the chance of smoking a few months prior....comon.
