Conor McGregor To Face Jim Alers At Cage Warriors 51
Posted by Joseph Lee on 09.21.2012

MMA Junkie reports that Cage Warriors featherweight champion Conor McGregor (11-2) and rival Jim Alers (9-1) will face each other on December 31 at Cage Warriors 51.

The event takes place at The Helix in Dublin, Ireland. The main card will stream live on MMA Junkie with the preliminary card streaming on Facebook. The two have been feuding on Twitter and were set to fight earlier this month at Cage Warriors Fight Night 7 before McGregor had to back out due to a facial injury that required surgery. McGregor will be fighting in his home country while Alers travels from Florida.

This will be McGregor's first title defense. After losing to Joseph Duffy in 2010, he had seven consecutive wins, six by knockout. He then beat Dave Hill by submission to win the 145-pound title, which he hopes will get him a UFC contract. Meanwhile, Alers has had five consecutive wins, all by stoppage. In his two recent fights he won via TKO over Matteus Lahdesmaki (12-7-3 at the time) and submitted Marcio Cesar (16-6-1). All nine of his wins, including a 2009 win over Freddy Assuncao, have come via stoppage.
