Roller thinks he will have the better striking in their fight...
MMAjunkie Radio interviewed UFC fighter Shane Roller (11-6, MMA; 2-3, UFC) who faces Jacob Volkmann (14-3, MMA; 6-3, UFC) in the UFC on FX 5 preliminaries on Facebook:
What he thinks about his fights: "I think all my fights are exciting. I come after everybody, and I put on a pretty good show, so I think that's why they kept me around."
When he lost three in a row: "The night I lost, (UFC matchmaker) Joe Silva told me I was fine and not to worry about," he said. "I took that third fight on short notice, but you're still thinking [the pink slip] might come, so it wasn't 100 percent guaranteed. So even after he said that, I was hoping they'd just give me another shot."
Getting a win again over John Alessio: "It was just another win. Any time you fight, you're in that situation. If you go out and have a bad fight, the UFC can cut you at any time. It was just another win and a next step to getting where I need to be."
His match-up with Volkmann: "I think with Volkmann, I don't think he likes to stay on his feet. He always likes to try to takes fight to the fight to the ground. I'm confident in every position, but I do believe I have a bigger advantage on my feet this time. If he takes a bad shot or something, I'll definitely take him to the ground and try a submission. But I do want to keep it on the feet and throw some bombs at him... He's got a lot of wins in the UFC, so I'm definitely motivated to fight him. I think this matchup is good for me. I'm ready to go out there and prove it."
