Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 11.08.2012

Strikeforce confirmed today in an official press release that they will be returning for an event on Saturday, January 12 taking place at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This will apparently be the last event for the Strikeforce MMA promotion (this was not mentioned in the official release).

Strikeforce confirmed the following fights for the event:

* Gilbert "El Niño" Melendez (champion) vs. Pat Healy for the STRIKEFORCE lightweight title
* Luke Rockhold (champion) vs. Lorenz Larkin for the STRIKEFORCE middleweight title
* Nate Marquardt (champion) vs. Tarec Saffiedine for the STRIKEFORCE welterweight title
* Daniel Cormier (Grand Prix champion, OSU All-American) vs. Dion Staring

Strikeforce CEO and founder Scott Coker stated in the press release: "We've built an absolutely stacked card for Oklahoma City and the SHOWTIME viewers. We have three awesome title fights featuring some of the best fighters to ever grace the STRIKEFORCE cage. Plus, we have Daniel Cormier, one of the fastest-rising heavyweight stars today, returning to his roots in Oklahoma to fight Dion Staring. January 12 is going to be a really special night."

Showtime Executive Vice President and General Manager of Showtime Sports stated, "The biggest stars in STRIKEFORCE are putting their titles on the line in competitive fights, and that is precisely what fans of STRIKEFORCE on SHOWTIME have come to expect. We are excited to be part of the event."

The event will be broadcast live on Showtime at 10PM ET/PT (delayed for the West Coast broadcast) with the preliminary fights to be shown live on Showtime Extreme at 8PM ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast broadcast). Additional fights are expected to be scheduled soon.

Tickets for the event will go on sale to the public on Friday, November 16 at 12PM CT. They will be priced at $150, $100, $70 and $50. Tickets will be available at the Chesapeake Energy Arena box office, all Ticketmaster locations, at Ticketmaster.com or 1-800-745-3000. Applicable service charges may apply.

UFC Fight Club members will be able to purchase advance tickets to the event on Wednesday, November 14 at 12PM CT on UFCFightClub.com. A pre-sale will also be available to UFC newsletter and Strikeforce Insider subscribers on Thursday, November 15, starting at 12PM CT.
