Fox Hoping For UFC Event To Air On The Network Instead Of PPV During Super Bowl Weekend In 2014
Posted by Joseph Lee on 11.27.2012

Fox President Eric Shanks told MMA Junkie that he hopes that the Super Bowl weekend in 2014 will have a UFC on FOX event instead of a UFC PPV.

Shanks said he would "love" to see a UFC on FOX event held in the same weekend as Super Bowl XLVIII, which will take place on February 2, 2014 at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

He said: "We think that Super Bowl week in New York is going to be unlike anything else, and we're going to own that week of sports television. There's nothing better than we can think of than a big fight that week."

Shanks also said he is trying to convince Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta to make it happen. He then joked about FOX wanting an outdoor stadium show in the cold East Cost weather.

FOX, which broadcast games in the NFL's National Football Conference, won the rights to Super Bowl XLVII in 2010. The UFC has previously scheduled six PPV events before the Super Bowl, starting with UFC 57 in 2006 which featured Chuck Liddell vs Randy Couture. All events took place in Las Vegas. UFC 156 is scheduled for February 2, 2013 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The PPV will feature a featherweight title match between champion Jose Aldo and challenger Frankie Edgar.

Shanks would not comment on a sports channel for the network that would involve UFC, but he did say that for right now, UFC will have four events on FOX per year.
