Alexander Gustafsson Discusses Fighting Before His Title Shot
Posted by Larry Csonka on 12.13.2012

- Alexander Gustafsson recently spoke about fighting before a title shot he earned at UFC on FOX 5. Here are the highlights...

On Sitting Out Until Summer For His Title Shot: "No way – I want to fight earlier than that. If the UFC wants me to fight, I'll fight. It doesn't matter who they put in front of me."

On His Desire to Win The Title: "Of course I want the belt and I want to fight for the title," Gustafsson said. "That's my main goal and that's my dream. When I get the chance, I'll be more than ready for it – for Jones, Chael, who knows who has the belt when everything is sorted out. But I want to stay busy at the same time. I had a long layoff – I fought in April, and then I fought in December. That's too long for me. I want to be more active. So if I get a fight in between, that would be great, too. But I want to fight for the belt."

On His Fight With Shigun: "I'm a little bit banged up," he said. "After three rounds, you're always a little bit banged up. It's just bruises, and I'll be good in a few days. He hits super hard, but I felt fine the whole fight and I was never rocked or anything like that. I was in danger with the foot lock, but that was it. He had it, but I never really felt any pain. It was really close – but I did what I could to defend it and it worked out fine."

On Learning With Every Fight: "I'm learning all the time, and the best way to learn is to have a tough fight," he said. "I learned a lot from this fight, and I always try to be better every fight. I'm going to go back to the gym soon and start working on everything."
