Dana White Still Says Sara McMann Turned Down A Fight With Ronda Rousey
Posted by Joseph Lee on 12.17.2012

Even though her representatives have denied it, Sara McMann (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) turned down a fight with Ronda Rousey (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC). At least that's the story UFC President Dana White is sticking to, according to MMA Junkie.

McMann's representative and manager Monte Cox said that they were never offered the fight against Rousey. Rousey will now face Liz Carmouche (7-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) as the headlining fight of UFC 157 in February in Anaheim, California. Cox said: "Our contract says she is still with Strikeforce. We never got that phone call. So, I don't know where this is all coming from."

Cox then said that the fight should only happen after a strong promotional push. He said it would make more sense for McMann to have some more wins to build interest in a fight with Rousey.

White says that they were offered the fight. He also says that it doesn't matter, because McMann will still have a spot in the UFC's 135-pound women's division. He said: "She's definitely one of the girls that will be in it. But – and she said she didn't say it, but she said it – she wants a fight or two before she fights Ronda Rousey. Nothing to be embarrassed about. Ronda Rousey's nasty. You want a couple fights before you fight her? That's no big deal. But don't walk around talking s--- that you didn't say it when you did say it."

White also mentioned Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos and Miesha Tate as fighters who turned down the Rousey fight. Santos' manager, Tito Ortiz, denied that they ever talked about the fight and Tate went on Twitter to say she was never offered anything.

McMann's last fight was in July, where she defeated Shayna Baszler at Invicta FC 2 by decision. She was set to fight Carmouche at a November 3 Strikeforce event but pulled out in September due to injury.
