Anthony Pettis Believes WEC Had World's Best Lightweights
Posted by Joseph Lee on 12.21.2012

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Anthony Pettis (15-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) said that he believes WEC had the best lightweights in the world. Pettis will face Donald Cerrone (19-4 MMA, 6-1 UFC) at UFC on FOX 6 on January 26 at the United Center in Chicago. The main card, which features the fight, will air on FOX after preliminary fights on FX and Facebook.

On the transition from WEC to UFC: "It surprised me how good the WEC guys did (in the UFC). I mean, we're at the top of the top. Everybody doubted the WEC our skills weren't good enough. And we proved everybody wrong. Henderson's at the top, I'm right there, me and Cerrone are about to fight for the No. 1 contender. We're all very well-skilled the WEC had the best 155ers in the world, and now we're fighting to be at the top again."

On coming off a loss in his fight against Joe Lauzon: "When you're coming off a loss like the Guida fight, you kind of have to play it safe. You can't have two losses in a row in the UFC. I was trying to find my bearings. In the Joe Lauzon fight, it all came together. I ended that fight quickly with a dangerous opponent. Lauzon is a dangerous, dangerous guy. I'm finding my own in the UFC now and I'm putting everything in the past behind. I'm not letting that WEC stuff get to my head, the 'Showtime Kick,' none of that stuff. I'm just going to keep remaking a name for myself with this fight."

On his fight with Cerrone: "He's dangerous everywhere. I really have a lot of respect for his skill set. He's a good kickboxer, he's good off his back, he's got decent wrestling he's as tough as they come. This is going to be a fight where someone's going to make a mistake, and we have to capitalize. I'm training for a tough, tough fight with someone who's good everywhere."
