Eddie Yagin Hopes UFC Doctors Will Clear Him To Fight
Posted by Joseph Lee on 12.31.2012

MMA Junkie spoke with featherweight Eddie Yagin (16-5-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC), who will be meeting with UFC doctors soon. He said that he hopes he will be cleared as it seems his subdural hematoma is healing faster than expected.

He was training for a fight with Dennis Siver at UFC on FOX 5 when he woke up with a severe migraine headache. He visited the hospital and was diagnosed with the hematoma. A doctor suggested he take six months off to let his brain heal. He was eventually replaced at the December 8 show in Seattle by Nam Phan. UFC covered his medical bills as part of its accident-insurance program, and several people from the organization checked on him after he was hospitalized.

Yagin then left his home in San Diego and went to his home state of Hawaii. Yagin said: "As soon as I landed, it's like my headaches were gone and everything started healing faster for me."

He then tested himself by running Koko Head in Oahu, a trail with a 10,000 foot gain in elevation. He thought it would cause another migraine but nothing happened. He added: "That was the first time I tried to train."

He says that he's still looking for a match with featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who will meet Frankie Edgar at UFC 156. He said: "It's not that I'm underestimating any champion. It's just knowing what I can do, knowing my skills and being confident with that goes a long way. I'm not afraid to compete with the best in the world and show what I can do."

Finally, he thanked MMA Elite for the support they gave him during his health crisis. He said: "I've been blessed to meet the MMA Elite family. They stepped up."
