They fight tonight at Bellator 85...
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Pat Curran (17-4 MMA, 7-1 BFC) spoke about his featherweight title fight with Patricio Freire (17-1 MMA, 5-1 BFC) at Bellator 85 tonight. Freire hasn't fought in 20 months while Curran hasn't fought in nine months thanks to a broken orbital bone.
The event is Bellator's debut on Spike TV after leaving MTV2. Curran won his title from Joe Warren after a tournament win in 2011. Here are highlights:
On their styles: "We're two different styles. He's an aggressive style, and I'm more of a laid-back, conservative, defensive counter-puncher. But in the last year, I've really been working on getting aggressive and being an offensive fighter. So hopefully I can go out there and show what I've learned in the last year. But it's really hard to say."
On being mentally strong: "I thought about the fight so much during my training camp and in my preparations that now I know I'm ready for it. So all the media interviews, everything that goes along with the lead up to a fight, it's just pretty much a job. It's just what you have to do right now."
On what the result will be: "I'm not losing this belt any time soon, and this is the beginning of a new championship. I'm going to be here a while."
