Bjorn Rebney Says Featherweight Division is Too Stacked For a Curran-Freire Rematch
Posted by Larry Csonka on 01.18.2013

- Bellator debuted on Spike TV last night, and Pat Curran successfully defended his featherweight title with a split-decision victory over Patricio "Pitbull" Freire. With Bellator announcing a new championship-rematch clause, many felt that this would be the first instance of an immediate rematch. But Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney doesn't see it that way…

"At the end of the day, I think Daniel deserves his shot now without any type of delay. Straus is that unknown commodity. Not that many people talk about Straus, but I literally think belongs in most people's Top 7 or 8 in the world. He's a really talented fighter and one of the biggest featherweights I've ever seen."

Rebney was asked if there weren't a logjam in the division if he would do the rematch. He stated the following…

"Absolutely. (Matchmaker) Sam (Caplan) and I and the team would sit down and consider it. Pat won the fight, but it would be one we'd look at and consider."
