Johny Hendricks Speak on Jake Ellenberger's Anger on UFC 158 Fight Change
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 02.20.2013

MMAjunkie Radio interviewed UFC welterweight fighter Johny Hendricks who spoke about his recent fight change at UFC 158 against Carlos Condit. Hendricks was originally scheduled to face Jake Ellenberger. However, after Rory MacDonald was forced to withdraw from his planned rematch with Condit due to injury, Hendricks replaced MacDonald on the card.

On moving into a fight with Condit instead of Ellenberger: "If I can do good against Condit, there's nothing they can do to keep me from getting a title shot. But if I should fight Jake, and say I win, who's to say they give me a title shot?"

Hendricks' response to Ellenberger who was upset that Hendricks moved to the Condit match-up: "I plan on fighting everybody in my weight class. [Ellenberger will] get his shot. For him to say he would do this and that to me, I can't wait to find out."

Hendricks on why he took the Condit fight when the opportunity was there: "I know that whenever stuff like this happens I told myself I'll never be surprised again. So to keep yourself from being surprised at anything being taken away from you, you fight the guy who had the belt, who just got off the title shot. He's ranked third. If I beat him, that's the fourth fight in a row that I'll fight somebody in the top five and have the W. That's got to look good on the resume."

Hendricks thoughts on the Ellenberger match-up and how he'd still like to fight him later: "I think it's a good matchup for me. He's a heavy-handed guy, but I've fought guys like that. I've fought guys that I think hit harder than him, and I've eaten them and come back stronger from them. He has a hard time keeping his cardio up, and that's something that never fails on me. When that time comes, I'll be excited. And it looks like if I get that belt, I might be defending it against him."
