Matt Grice Says Jacob Volkmann's Release Isn't a Message To Wrestlers
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 02.21.2013

Matt Grice recently spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Dennis Bermudez at UFC 157 this weekend and more. Check out the highlights:

On the UFC cutting Jacon Volmann: "I don't really think it's a message to wrestlers. Most wrestlers don't shy away from the standup game, and most of us aren't afraid to throw our hands. Volkmann had some run-ins in post-fight interviews and got in some trouble. He rubbed some people the wrong way. They had the chance, and they let him go. I honestly think it had to do with his other antics."

On Bermudez' wrestling skills: "I think I'm the better wrestler and the better wrestler for MMA. I respect Dennis' skills and think he's a real tough guy, but I still think I am (better)."

On his day job as a police officer: "The only time I'm home in my three-month camp is when I'm sleeping. I work 10-hour shifts for eight days straight, and then I get six days off. Those six help me recover. But I wouldn't trade it for anything because I enjoy being busy. It helps me stay more mentally focused. If I have too much time on my hands, I may sit around. But I'm on such a tight schedule, it helps me keep everything in focus."

On his fight this weekend: "(Wrestlers are) all hard-headed – that's why we're in this business. On any given night, I think I can beat anybody and I'm sure he feels the same way. On Saturday night, I guess we'll find out."
