Martin Kampmann Wants To Fight Either Nick Diaz, Tarec Saffiedine Or Georges St-Pierre Next
Posted by Joseph Lee on 03.11.2013

MMA Junkie reports that Martin Kampann (20-6 MMA, 11-5 UFC) said that he wants to fight either Tarec Saffiedine (14-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) or the loser of Saturday's UFC 158 main event welterweight title fight between Georges St-Pierre (23-2 MMA, 17-2 UFC) and Nick Diaz (26-8 MMA, 7-5 UFC). UFC 158 will take place at the Bell Center in Montreal with a main card on PPV are preliminary fights on FX and Facebook.

Kampmann isn't scheduled for his next fight. In November at UFC 154 (in Montreal), he was knocked out by Johny Hendricks (14-1 MMa, 9-1 UFC) with one punch in 46 seconds. He wrote on his Twitter that he would like to fight either Saffiedine or Diaz, predicting that GSP will retain his title on Sunday. GSP is the 5-to-1 favorite in the fight.

He said: "No fights lined up yet, but I would like to get one this summer against strikeforce champ Saffiedine or Diaz after gsp beats him up. If Diaz pulls it off I will be happy to fight gsp as well, I would actually prefer that."

After losing the Hendricks, Kampmann suffered the end of a three-fight win streak. Before that, he came back from decision losses to Jake Shields and Diego Sanchez with wins over Rick Story, Thiago Alves and Jake Ellenberger.

Saffiedine won the final Strikeforce 170-pound belt in January at the finale of the promotion before it folded into the UFC. He defeated Nate Marquardt by unanimous decision. His UFC debut has not been scheduled, but his Strikeforce career ended with a record of 6-1, with four wins in a row.

If Kampmann wants a fight with the GSP/Diaz loser, it could help him get back into title contention. St-Pierre hasn't lost in nearly six years and has won ten straight fights. Diaz is back after a yearlong suspension for testing positive for marijuana metabolites after a loss to Carlos Condit at UFC 143. Before that, he had an eleven-fight win streak.
