Who will Santos face?
UPDATE: Invicta has announced that Cyborg Santos will now face Fiona Muxlow at Invicta FC 5 following Ediane Gomes' being forced off the card. Muxlow's original Invicta FC 5 opponent, Julia Budd, will have a new opponent announced soon.
ORIGINAL:MMA Junkie reports that an injury has forced Ediane Gomes (10-2) off of Invicta FC 5, which means that Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos (10-1) no longer has an opponent. A search is ongoing.
The event takes place on April 5 at the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Mo. The featherweight fight was set for the main card which would air through online PPV.
Gomes recently competed at the Invicta's last event in January. She won by unanimous decision over Hiroko Yamanaka, who was the last woman to fight Santos.
Santos, who won that fight in the first round by stoppage in December 2011, later tested positive for stanozolol metabolites and was suspended and fined. She filed an appeal and blamed a tainted supplement for the results and denied using the drugs, but the punishment was held up. After her suspension expired, she negotiated with several promoters (including Zuffa, who held the her rights after gaining Strikeforce). She asked to be released from her Zuffa contract and turned down a multi-fight contract that would have included fights for Invicta. Instead she signed an exclusive deal with Invicta.
Santos held the Strikeforce women's featherweight belt before being stripped after the drug test failure.
