He wants to fight GSP in August...
MMA Junkie reports that Johny Hendricks (15-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) managed to avoid a serious hand injury in his UFC 158 fight with Carlos Condit (at the Bell Center in Montreal) and now hopes to get the welterweight title match he earned against Georges St-Pierre (24-2 MMA, 18-2 UFC) in August. GSP defeated Nick Diaz at the same event.
During the post-event press conference, Hendricks said he injured his left hand and was afraid it was broke. But Monday, he revealed it was better. He wrote: "Update on my hand: it was feeling so much better today I decided not to go to the doc. Recovery going good!"
On FUEL TV's UFC Tonight reporter Ariel Helwani said Hendricks is looking to fight GSP in August. While featherweight champion Jose Aldo and Anthony Pettis will fight at UFC 163 on August 3, UFC 164 takes place on August 31 and doesn't have a headliner. Dana White has said he wants St-Pierre's next fight in Vegas, after the champion fought in his home country four times in a row.
Hendricks is on a six-fight win streak with three knockouts. He's also defeated Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck and Martin Kampmann thanks to his left hand. GSP has held the title for a long time and has won eleven fights in a row. He also has the most welterweight title defenses with eight, and tied Matt Hughes for the most wins in UFC history with 18.
