UFC's UK and Irish TV Partner BT Sport Reveals Pricing Structure
Posted by Joseph Lee on 05.09.2013

MMA Junkie reports that BT Sports, the new UK and Irish TV partner of the UFC revealed the pricing structure for its three channel lineup.

The company will give the UFC a bigger presence in the region with live event broadcasts and highlight shows, with new programming geared around the UK and Ireland. It is set to launch on August 1 when the UFC's current deal with ESPN UK expires. The new deal runs three years.

BT Sport operates two of its own branded channels (BT Sport 1 and BT Sport 2) along with ESPN UK, which it recently required. It's free to BT broadband customers. Prices for non-customers start at £10 per month. For £15 a month, fans can use the BT Infinity broadband service, which includes the channels. If customers sign up before August 1, HD is free for 12 months. Sky customers can add the channels for £12 a month (plus a £15 activation fee). Prices haven't been announced for Virgin customers.

UFC has had a ESPN UK since 2009 but the organization wasn't made a priority even with local fighters like Michael Bisping, Ross Pearson, Dan Hardy and Brad Pickett. The paid-subscription model wasn't financially successful for ESPN, which sold its assets to BT Sport.

In addition to the UFC, BT Sport is closing or has closed deals with Premier League and Scottish Premier League football, Premiership Rugby, the Women's Tennis Association, MotoGP motorcycle racing, NASCAR and more. The first UFC event on the network will be UFC 163 on August 3.
