Commission is changing their regulations...
The California State Athletic Commission has announced that they are putting a temporary end to new exemptions for testosterone-replacement therapy while it updates its policies for the treatment that could make TRT more difficult to qualify for. Andy Forster, the executive director for the CSAC, said that he will not reject fighters who have previously received the exemption but will not grant any new exemptions until after the policy change is implemented.
The new policy was presented in a meeting of the commission on Monday and will ban TRT exemptions with the exception of applicants who have irreversible structural/organic hypogonadism, a condition wherein the body fails to produce normal levels of testosterone. The condition can be caused by genetic, developmental and metabolic abnormalities; deficiencies caused by infections or disease; pituitary disorders and certain traumatic brain injuries. The new policy would also ban women from receiving exemptions with the exception of female-to-male transgender fighters who follow a recently drafted transgender policy that's also is in the process of being implemented.
"I'm not going to say no (to those who previously have been approved), but no new ones will be given out," said Foster.
