Frankie Edgar Says Charles Oliveira is a 'Very Dangerous Opponent'
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 06.30.2013

Frankie Edgar recently spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Charles Oliveira at UFC 162 and more. Check out the highlights:

On being in his first non-title fight in three years: "It's definitely a mental test, and it makes you tougher, I think," Edgar told MMAjunkie.com. "I dealt with it before in my amateur wrestling career. I took second in high school state (wrestling tournament), I took second in high school nationals, I missed being an All-American by an overtime match. So that's what I felt like a lot of these fights were almost like taking second place. I've been there before and I could've packed it in, but I chose not to. That's just what I'm doing here. I'm working my way back, and I'm keeping things positive."

On Oliveira: "I think he's a very dangerous opponent. When he first came in (to the UFC), people were talking about him being the next big thing. So just because he had a couple setbacks himself doesn't mean he doesn't have the talent and the ability to be one of the top guys in this weight class."

On his strategy: "I prepared to be able to handle everything. I'm confident in my jiu-jitsu and my preparation for this fight with his jiu-jitsu. So wherever we go if we go down, I'm going to go for it. But I'm going to put myself in the best position to win and we'll see what happens."

On wanting to break his winless streak: "I always try to think of the positive and think of the moments after the fight and walking in victory lane, so to speak. And that's something I'm looking forward to."
