New ordinance passes...
The city of Boston has banned minors from attending MMA events in the city. The Boston city council passed the resolution, which bands fans younger than sixteen from attending MMA shows unless accompanied by an adult. The move was spearheaded by city council president Steve Murphy, who had lobbied heavily against the UFC in the build to last weekend's UFC Fight Night 27 in the city.
The resolution called MMA an "extremely violent form of entertainment" and made specific note of pro and amateur MMA fighters who have neo-Nazi tattos, along with fighters who've joked about rape and used homophobic language. A copy of the resolution will be provided to the Boston Police Department and TD Garden management.
The UFC has not yet responded to a request for comment. Dana White had previously noted that the roadblocks thrown up to prevent the UFC from running in Boston made it less likely that the promotion would return.
