MMA Junkie reports that Cage Warriors Fighting Championship will have four more shows in Dublin, Ireland at The Helix through 2014. The venue has previously held three shows for the promotion, including Cage Warriors 55 in June.
The first will be a New Year's Eve show, Cage Warriors 63. After that, they will hold shows on March 8, July 26 and December 31, 2014. The main cards stream live on MMA Junkie in North America, with preliminary fights on Facebook. The March and July shows are Saturday shows, while the New Year's Eve 2013 show is on a Tuesday and the 2014 edition is on a Wednesday. Cage Warriors previously held a New Year's Eve show in The Helix this year for Cage Warriors 51, which saw Conor McGregor win the lightweight title and Jesse Taylor beat Chris Fields for the middleweight title.
Cage Warriors CEO Graham Boylan said: "We're delighted to be making such a strong commitment to the Irish market over a 12-month period, particularly at a such a fantastic venue. After selling out our previous shows there, the huge demand and interest from the Irish fans could have convinced us to choose a bigger venue. But the intimate nature of The Helix has contributed to making our previous Dublin shows so special. We've had some very memorable Cage Warriors moments at The Helix already, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of those with this next batch of events, starting with CWFC 63 this New Year's Eve."
The first show in Dublin was in June 2012. This saw McGregor (a native of Dublin) win the featherweight title with a second round submission of Dave Hill. At the New Year's Eve 2012 show, McGregor beat Ivan Buchinger in the first round to win the lightweight belt, making him a two-division champion. He then went to the UFC and went 2-0 before a knee injury at UFC Fight Night 26 put him out for the next nine to ten months.
At Cage Warriors 55 in June, Dublin fighter Neil Seery beat Mikael Silander by submission to win the first flyweight title of the promotion.
