Browne says Rothwell has catching up to do...
UFC heavyweight fighter Ben Rothwell spoke to reporters following UFC 164 and talked about his win over Brandon Vera on the main card and his call out for a heavyweight fight with Travis Browne. Browne then responded to Rothwell's call out on Twitter.
Rothwell stated: "I just think it would be a great fight," Rothwell said after the event. "I know he's up there in the rankings right now. The UFC probably has big plans for him. But maybe they need him to have another tough fight for first (before a title shot), and I think it'd give him a good fight for the fans. That was it. I think it's be a great fight."
He added, "I was supposed to fight him a year ago. We'll see what happens. If not him, I'm sure I'll get matched up with another good fighter." Browne and Rothwell were originally scheduled to face each other at UFC on Fox 4 last year. However, Rothwell dropped off the card due to injury. Rothwell would later go on to get submitted by Gabriel Gonzaga before rebounding with his win over Vera here. Browne himself bounced back from a knockout loss to Antonio Silva with knockout wins over Gabriel Gonzaga and then Alistair Overeem.
Browne tweeted the following after Rothwell's call out:
LOL @rothwellfighter had your chance a yr ago but you magically sprained your little toe and now you want to be given something I've earned.
