He's in the bantamweight semifinals...
In an interview with MMA Junkie, James Pennington (8-1) said he is hoping to knock out Kris Edwards (8-5) in the semifinals of Cage Warriors' one-night, four-man bantamweight tournament, which takes today at Cage Warriors 59, as part of the preliminary card. If he can beat Edwards, he would be in the co-main event for the title.
On wanting the KO: "I'd love to get my first KO. Everything's feeling pretty sharp at the moment. The thing is, you can't go in there saying, 'I'm going to KO him – I'm going to KO him.' If the KO happens, it happens. You can't predict it."
On almost getting it against Ben Brook in July: "I was so close to getting the KO – I caught him with a spinning backfist and he sort of crumbled on the floor. I just ended up jumping on top of him and submitting him. I'll beat people into giving me submissions. I don't go for a submission – they'll give it to me because they want out. I'll elbow them 50 times and then they'll curl up, I'll take their back and sub them. That's how I've gotten most of my submissions – because I've beaten the hell out of them."
On his plans for tonight: "I've got it set that I'm definitely going to be fighting two times in one night... You've got to look on paper – I've actually finished people in a couple minutes, whereas the guy I'm fighting in the semis is coming off a couple losses, and they haven't been against guys as good as me. I'm not underestimating Kris Edwards – I know he's a good fighter."
