Dana White Speaks on Current Status of the UFC Bantamweight Title

Dominick Cruz’s title hasn’t been contested in two years…
Dana White spoke with reporters during a media scrum with reporters today ahead of UFC 165 about the current status of injured UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. Currently, interim champion Renan Barao is set to defend the interim title again at UFC 165 on Saturday against Eddie Wineland. Cruz will reportedly have to face the winner early next year or he will likely be stripped of the title soon. Cruz has been unable to defend his title since October 2011 due to injury.
White on possibly stripping Cruz of the title: "It's getting to the point now where it's just like, if he can't fight at the beginning of the year, we've got to pull the trigger…The interim champ would become the champ, and then he would defend the title against whoever was next."
White on why they haven't had this type of conversation about the issue with Cruz: "We've never had that conversation with him. We've said, 'Listen, when are you coming back?' The kid has had enough bad things happen to him, and I'm sure is under enough pressure and stress. He hasn't made a living in two years. That's how he makes his living, and he hasn't been able to fight in two years."
White on why they haven't taken the title away from Cruz: "It's been two years. A lot of people think we're crazy for holding up the title this long, but it's a tough thing to do to take a title away from somebody. It's hard to do."
