It was hard work...
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Jesse Ronson (13-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) spoke about getting back into shape for his UFC debut, which happens tonight at UFC 165 against Michel Prazeres (16-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC). It happens on the preliminary card, which streams on Facebook. It is followed by more preliminary fights on Fox Sports 1 then the main card on PPV. The event takes place at the Air Canada Center in Toronto.
On hearing he would debut at lightweight in UFC: "It was a Tuesday, Aug. 21, at about 4 o'clock. I was sitting there playing 'Call of Duty' and my manager told me some bad news about another fight, but then told me I was going to get in the UFC. I said, 'Hold on a second.' I put the phone down and stepped on the scale and was like, 'Oh, crap.' I was a half pound under 188. So I had a lot of work to do, but I was super excited and super stoked to get the diet back on and get back into training camp."
On if there was any question he would accept the fight: "I think (my manager) said yes for me because he knew automatically that I wasn't going to say no. It's the UFC. This is exactly where I want to be – this is exactly where everyone wants to be when they do MMA. You don't start fighting and training to not get to the UFC."
On how he prepares for an opponent: "I like to watch tape of my opponent right at the beginning, just to see what he looks like and how he moves. I can break somebody down in two of three minutes of watching them fight. I don't know – maybe it's a special gift of mine. So I watched two fights of his, and that's all I needed to watch."
