Plus his thoughts on who Jose Aldo will next face...
Nova Uniao head trainer Andre Pederneiras recently spoke with MMAjunkie about Renan Barao's status as an interim champion, Jose Aldo's next fight and more. Check out the highlights:
On Barao's money woes due to being interim champion: "He's very frustrated because he needs to make money. So many sponsors here in Brazil are not sponsoring him because he's not the real champion from the UFC. He's the interim champion. He's losing money every day. The sponsors here want a real champion. A linear champion."
On Dominick Cruz's pledge to be back by January: "I don't want another opponent. I want to make the fight happen by February, or I need to talk to Dana to take his belt, because more than two-and-a-half years, I don't understand. But he said he was probably going to be fighting in February. I've been waiting for that and praying every day for it to happen. Renan wants to fight Dominick."
On who Jose Aldo will face next: "Aldo wants to fight Pettis, but I don't know if the UFC wants to put Ricardo Lamas first."
On an Aldo/Pettis fight: "We just need to talk to Dana. If he doesn't need to give back his belt to the UFC, like Dana offered last time, he wants to fight at 155. If he needs to give the belt back, he wants Pettis to drop to 145. But he can't give up his belt when he goes up."
