They'll debut tonight...
MMA Junkie reports that Bellator will reveal new black and pink gloves tonight at Bellator 102 in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The organization previously had pink ribbons on the cage canvas, but instead decided to go with gloves this year, partnering with Everlast. The event takes place at the Visalia Convention Center in California. It will air on Spike TV at 9 PM ET after preliminary fights on Spike.com at 7:30 PM ET.
Every fight on the card will have the new gloves. Normally the gloves are black and red.
In October, a dollar from every sale of Everlast's CardioBlast heavy bad will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Everlast also gives 25 cents from all purchases of its pink hand wraps and a dollar of each sale of its pink pro training gloves throughout the year. Pink Everlast equipment can be found at Everlast's official web store and sporting goods stores.
Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said: "We are honored to have our fighters wear Everlast's new gloves inside our cage this Friday live on Spike. This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase the importance of cancer research, and we will continue to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in (its) efforts."
Matt Cowan, Everlast EVP for marketing, sales and product, added: "The most important fights in the world are those that take place outside of the ring or cage. Through our long-standing partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, it is our committed goal to honor and support those fighters and survivors around the world."
Fighters wearing the gloves tonight include heavyweights Cheick Kongo and Lavar Johnson, who are on opposite ends of the heavyweight tournament semifinals bracket. Both are UFC veterans making their Bellator debut. The winner of the tournament gets a shot at the heavyweight title.
