His wife provides an update...
The UFC veteran and Oklahoma City police officer who was critically injured last month is making progress in his recovery. As you may recall, Matt Grice was injured in an off-duty car accident on September 8th when he was hit from behind and had to undergo surgery. ABC's Oklahoma City affiliate spoke with Grice's wife Caroline, who said that he's fighting his way back following the accident.
Caroline said, "We are seeing glimpses of Matt's personality come back. Matt still has a long road ahead of him but still has such a determination in him. You can still see his fighter spirit and strength."
In addition, the following update was made to a Facebook page updating fans and friends on his recovery:
Because of the injury mentally Matt has been a bit all over the place. His brain is trying to place information together. We've been trying to keep things relaxed as the doctors have suggested and today I saw so many good glimpses of him "still being there". Particularly today he is really missing his girls. It's sad of course, but something about seeing that emotion brings me so much joy. Can't wait for a time when we can sit and relax at home, hear Matt and the kids and all the love and laughter.
Grice last fought at UFC 157 in February where he lost a decision bout to Dennis Bermudez in a "Fight of the Night" bonus-earning effort.
On behalf of 411, our best wishes to Mr. Grice's continued recovery.
