Bjorn Rebney considers Palhares an unnecessary risk...
TMZ reports that Bellator MMA CEO Bjorn Rebney has said the decision by the UFC to fire Rousimar Palhares for his conduct at UFC Fight Night 29 was just. In addition, Rebney said that Bellator is not interested in bringing in Palhares to their roster.
Palhares was fired from the UFC on Thursday (October 10) after his performance at UFC Fight Night 29 on Wednesday night. Palhares defeated Mike Pierce by submission, but held on to a leglock too long after Pierce had visibily tapped out and the referee tried to separate them.
Rebney stated on the matter, "Risks already exist for the courageous, world class fighters who enter the Bellator cage; without adding further unnecessary risks into the mix." He added, "Fighter safety is paramount to me and my team."
